Is "mean-spiritedness" a valid complaint when discussing cartoons and other media?

In what context? Mean-spirited characters can have their place in a cartoon, so long as they're either redeemed or given their comeuppance. Anything else is just cunty

Yes if the cartoon isn't supposed to be that in the other episodes or seasons.

It absolutely is, Family Guy for instance is a mean-spirited show since the characters are extremely unlikable, filled with gore and shock humor, includes pedophilia, rape, child abuse, bad morals etc...

It's sooooo fucking shit, can't believe zoomers enjoy it more than The Simpsons.

It's not necessarily an objective flaw, but it's a perfectly valid reason not to like it subjectively.

>Individual Episodes
Yes. Poor writing can do this.

>Entire series because a few bad episodes
No. Because that would be stupid.

Yes but some literally autistic eceleb faggot used it and now you're not allowed to say it anymore, so sayeth the hivemind.

For instance, the ending of The Mist was horribly mean spirited, yet a lot of people loved it for that, it's probably the reason the movie is still talked about today

Nobody cares about the fact that your waifu gets abused

what the fuck is "mean-spirited", by the way?
Sounds like a skill from fucking Warcraft.

>Is "mean-spiritedness" a valid complaint when discussing cartoons and other media?
Yes but it depends largely on the execution.
There's a reason you never see people complain about characters being horrible to each other in something like Invader Zim, or South Park but you do in Family Guy or the Bendy episode of Fosters.

>so long as they're either redeemed or given their comeuppance

Yeah, see, I don't agree with this shit at all. It falls into the "cartoons must have morals" shit that turns everything fruity. As if it's so unrealistic to have bad people do bad things and not face consequences

Zig Forums is probably the only place that will have someone defending modern Simpsons

So this is ranked from good to great show

By this logic all cartoons from the 20s till today.

>Having a soul is gay

Don't you have a school to shoot up? Can you at least just do us the favor and make yourself victim 1?

Eat shit zoomer, it's filled with flaws, the Dog for instance is the worst character by far, dude is an stuck up selfish Atheist cunt despite meeting Jesus several times and lies over women just to get laid, even underage girls.

I think, like all things, there is a correct and incorrect way to have a meanspirited cartoon. There's entire generations of people who absolutely detest the bendy episode but still love characters like Cartman.

Zim is evil retard, him being mean is the point.

>dude is an stuck up selfish Atheist cunt despite meeting Jesus several times
I see stuff like this and feel like Zig Forums operates on a more childlike level than even Zig Forums

Yeah I think that other guy missed the mark.
I'd say mean-spirited characters work as long as they're well written and have an actual personality beyond "annoying troublemaker" (something a character like Bendy lacks)

>cartoons are bullying me

>Defending Nu-Brian
Kill yourself

Yeah but Zim isn't the only character who's horrible to other people

Alright, but only if you admit that American animation was literally never good and Zig Forums primarily consumes juvenile media while trying to elevate it to a level that can be considered "mature".

When a show goes out of it's way to be mean/cruel to characters for no particular reason other than it can. Usually the perpetrator receives no punishment for their actions.

You are an autistic retard.

Brian is literally the best character, you're just a gay loser.

Says the faggot who likes Family Guy

What was ever the appeal of Family Guy? What could someone get out of it that you couldn't get out of literally anything else?

You can ask that about literally anything

Yes, my taste is better than your because I don't have autism.
