Are there any comics like The Boys that criticize superheroes/question what their role in society should be, but in perhaps a more mature way? The Boys asks the right questions and is funny in the way that it mocks superheroes but can be too juvenile the majority of the time
Yes. A lot. Easy path would be Watchmen and The Authority
Oliver Watson
Why are so many people obsessed with the idea of deconstructing superheroes to show that they're all actually really dark and twisted inside? Why can't our heroes just be heroic?
Chase Morgan
Watchmen and that's it. Others either are TOO edgy ot too simplistic
Cooper Sullivan
The Pro Irredeemable Bomb Queen Superior Nemesis
>Watchmen Are you two mentally retarded? The Boys is nothing like Watchmen.
Charles Jones
>Others either are TOO edgy ot too simplistic That's exactly why it's nothing like Watchmen. The Boys IS edgy try hard shit.
Brody Perry
>that criticize superheroes/question what their role in society should be, but in perhaps a more mature way? how does that not describe Watchmen, dummy
Grayson Evans
>Bomb Queen >Nemesis Just because it's similar doesn't mean you should recommend those shitty ass books.
Nicholas Torres
Ennis takes a lot of his cues on Superheroes from Pat Mills, who created among other books Marshal Law, a book I think you'd like because it's all about criticizing superheroes. Though it's a lot sillier than the Boys.
Colton King
Marshall Law
Caleb Adams
>that criticize superheroes/question what their role in society should be, Yeah, that's what Watchmen does. You should read it, it's a good comicbook.
Justin Cox
Because that's not what The Boys does. The Boys is just edgy shit, you cuck.
Michael Russell
He wanted stuff like The Boys and I gave it to him. It's not my fault he reads shit.
Ayden Jackson
retard
Eli Adams
I'm not the one defending The Boys, retard.
Bentley Morris
Brat Pack and Maximortal (and the One) Hopefully Vietch does finish the entire series (hope he shows more of the other heroes besides TrueMan)
Josiah Ramirez
The Boys is edgy, but it still question Superheroes and how they would and should react in a more "realistic" World.
Charles Wright
saying Watchmen addresses similar themes is not defending The Boys.
Ryder Bennett
It is because The Boys does NOT address the same themes as Watchmen. It uses the idea of deconstruction to produce edgy dog shit with no substance. LOL THE BABY SHOOTS LAZERS AND IS KILLING PEOPLE LOL THE SUPERMAN DUDE WANTS TO DRINK BREAST MILK LOL SO DEEP
Austin Martin
The Homelander is the only real character in the entirety of the series, which makes sense since he's Superman.
Ayden Collins
Both Watchmen and the Boys are about the roles of Superheroes in society. The Boys is much much edgier and way less good, but it's still about that.
Why are you angry ?
Josiah Jenkins
I really, really want there to be a big budget movie openly deconstructing Batman’s and Superman in a really heavy handed way so that normies can get it out of their system and move on. So sick of reading the same wild and ground-breaking revelation that vigilantism isn’t a good thing when real world logic is applied to it.
Xavier Bell
The Boys is not about the roles they play, The Boys is just about the characters and the edgy shit they do.
Jacob Perez
The Boys is about how Supes IRL would not be that heroic and would prefer to enjoy the current situation of status quo.
Watchmen is about how Supes defeating Evil Bad Guy would not really solve the World's issue and that to achieve that, you would need to change the system.
Oliver Martin
>Bomb Queen >Nemesis OP asked for something mature you retard.
Isaac Stewart
The inherent convention that power corrupts or all good people are secretly mean spirited or two faced is ruining comics. Some people are genuinely good willing. We're reading the story of Superman, the superhero; not Superman, the regular Joe who got powers and decided to kill people. That's what separates heroes from villains. They aren't the same behind different masks. Sincerely, the fact people instantly assume so, as they're reading impossibly hopeful and optimistic stories about friendship, loyalty and justice just kills the point of the genre. If Batman and Superman are psychopath rapists, then what's left of the rest of us? Should you kill and rape just because you have power, or should you do something good with it? Why are series like this even up to debate?
Ayden Baker
Then he shouldn't be using The Boys as an indicator, faggot. There is no comic that is both edgy immature dog shit like The Boys and also mature. Immaturity is an inherent aspect of The Boys. It's written for edgy thirteen year olds to jerk off to.
Ryder Mitchell
Anything written by Ennis
Ian Young
Punisher MAX doesn't really address superheroes and their role in society at all
Joseph Bell
>no comic that is both edgy immature dog shit like The Boys and also mature Irredeemable is right there in your post.
Thomas Murphy
Astro City especially the Dark Age books Top 10 Invincible
Charles Williams
but The Dark Age is most people's least favorite part of Astro City
