How would this work as a movie or a TV series? I assume it would be better as a series so less material would have to be dropped. Who would you cast as Spider? Would you want it in the hands of Netflix or Hulu or Amazon?
What, if anything, would you change from page to screen?
I have no idea who or what he is, but I want his shades.
Jack Ward
The biggest hurdle in my opinion would how to show the violence, nudity and general "out there" ness as a product of how humanity has advanced.
Most people wouldn't "get" it.
Cooper Allen
HBO animated series so that it doesn't need to be censored or toned down. And hopefully HBO would be able to supply a big enough budget for it to not look like dog shit. As for casting, I can't say because personally I wouldn't want to just grab some slack jawed celeb to do the voices.
Dominic Allen
You owe it to yourself to check out the comics, they're fantastic.
Oh, and strict adaptation. No changes. Keeps the length and what they're getting straight forward. It'd even still be marketable with the current political climate the way it is.
Eli Garcia
after the boys s2 and preacher s4 i dont want anymore adaptions a shitty spy book had a better adaption than the boys did (alex rider)
Sebastian Sanchez
It should be an animated series directed by Peter Chung.
Carson Peterson
It would totally work, but they would make Spider black and shoehorn a racism storyline. As either, an episodic series or a series of movies.
Give it to Amazon. Might as well. Hulu maybe. Not Netflix, please no.
I just wonder if they'll make Trump The Beast or The Smiler.
Both The Boys and Preacher were shitty comics to begin with.
Ryan Carter
I do, if not just to get more panels of these great shades and see if I can get a replica made.
Michael Lewis
HBO animated would work, but it would imply, or rather risk delays and big waits between seasons.
Josiah Russell
It's the best scenario I can think of. The story is too long to condense into a movie, unless the movie is over two hours long and I don't think even HBO is ready to bet on a two + hour long animated adult oriented movie. Maybe if the new Heavy Metal isn't shit but its still a stretch.
Samuel Foster
>I just wonder if they'll make Trump The Beast or The Smiler. Almost certainly the Smiler. The Beast will be Bush, the guy who was bad but not quite as bad as what came after.
Landon Sullivan
Nah, Preacher was a lot of fun and The Boys had some moments (but did mostly suck)
Robert Thomas
It doesn't matter Ellis is forever canceled. Althought that may be a blessing, I think the adaptation would botch it hard
Carter Russell
>Ellis is forever canceled.
How, when and why was he cancelled?
Christian Garcia
>saying Preacher was shit in a Transmetropolitan thread Funny.
Jace Hill
I get the feeling its basically a lighter version of Hunter Thompson. If I've already read Thompson is it still worth a perusal?
Connor Rodriguez
I'd make him The Beast, the guy on his way out, by having the guy come after be even worse it tells people that there's always a new threat.
Camden Williams
The character is sort of based on him, yes, but very superficially, its not about that. He is like Hunter is that he is a maverick journalist with substance abuse problems.
Christopher Clark
But user, there's nothing worse than Drumpf. He's literally Hitler.
Evan Wilson
Because he allegedly groomed legally adult women, aged 20+. I wish this was a joke.
Mason Morris
He's like a fusion of Hunter S Thompson and Warren Ellis
Nathan Roberts
i think someones either stupid or retarded which would you count yourself as?
Kayden Watson
That's the point.
Make a guy worse that Hitler/Trump/The Beast, The Smiler isn't corrupt, he isn't just about self interest and making money from the office. He wants to fuck over EVERYONE. He loathes "common people" and he is self aware and at peace with his depravity. He wont just help himself, he will fuck things up for everyone because he hates the masses.
Nathan Morgan
He supposedly lied about being in an open relationship, and led some women on implying he'd get their careers ahead in exchange for sexual favors. Evidence for all this is kinda thin, though, and his primary accuser has that creepy thousand-yard-stare I associate with manipulatie sociopaths. Also there doesn't appear to have been any actual sex or favors traded by anyone, so it's kind of like "whooptee-fucking-do."
William Brooks
Remember the old days when people thought Bush was the worst President? That's the point was making.
Jordan King
>brits commenting on politics wearing the skin of my favorite author from when i was in middleschool This is a hard sell to me but fuck it, I'll give it a shot since I'm running out of bad webcomics. Thanks for the clarification anons
