it is weird, but they really like south park, which visually, is one of the ugliest cartoons which is already saying much. It seems like their brains just turn everything in to Manga style, judging by the fan art.
But really, stuff like the Simpsons or rick and Morty have failed in japan time and time again, but for some reason they like south park.

Almost every American animated series, or animated series shown on like Cartoon Network or Toon Disney, has been fan subbed and have some kind of following there.
