Am I nuts, or has shipping culture turned into fucking chemical warefare ever since Adventure Time. Before, the biggest "battle" shippers would ever get is Kim and Ron getting together in the last season. Now it's become non-stop that showrunners interact with shippers and even cater to them in last seasons of the show.

Blame social media. Nowadays any fan with an internet connection and twitter account can talk to a show runner.
Not only does the person on the show have a direct way of seeing what fans want, when something happens the fans don’t like the creators are right there to complain to.

Shipping isn't allowed anymore because it's comparable to CP somehow

This. Pro tip for future showrunners. Keep your interaction with fans minimal. It will only ruin your life. Animation fans are rabid.

t. showrunner

Blame millennial womanchildren, people are starting to figure out they're just as radioactive as the manchildren if not worse.

What show?

shipping is cancer and anytime it's introduced it ruins a show

>Before, the biggest "battle" shippers would ever get is Kim and Ron getting together in the last season.
Did you forget Zutara?

Also don't let anyone you hired introduce elements to your show that alter how you want those characters to be.

>Also don't let anyone you hired introduce elements to your show that alter how you want those characters to be.

So adventure time, got it

Matt?

I'm not sure which one is worse,
>Show begins with the intent of certain expectations that get left by the wayside down the line because new people come in and take it in an unintended direction
or
>The show was always meant to be like this but it was people other than the showrunner who gave the fans false hope in the beginning that it wouldn't

>turned into
It always was a chemical warfare you fucking idiot. You only say that because you have JUST tuned into shipping culture. i.e. you're a fucking newfag.

>showrunners interact with shippers
That however is definitely a new-age thing. Back when the internet didn't exist, there wasn't any chance of an immediate negative baclash from the fans, that would plummet the views. Now there is.

I don't even think it's a "Showrunners capitulate to shippers" situation. Sure, there are exceptions, but generally, I think it's just a "Monkeys on typewriters" situation. You get enough people on the internet, EVENTUALLY you'll get a group who wanted the ship the showrunners had written in the show bible since day one, and since all shippers are self-important asshats, they had to make decisions written in the creative vacuum of pre-production all about them

For me its about what shipping culture has turned into.
Going into details would be a waste of time so ill leave it at late 2000 and early 2010 fujos are 1000x more tolerable than what we have now.

I wish shippers were as chill as Japanese fujos. At least they don't give a shit if the rival ship has a 3 year age gap or is unhealthy.

You must not be very old. Ship wars have been fucking insane on the internet in the same exact way they are now for decades. Adventure Time is just the first one to come out when Facebook was becoming ubiquitous.

The former, always the former. People can't blame anyone but themselves if a showrunner's a hack and they read what they wanted into the material they were given. If a showrunner can't control the direction their show takes (i.e. do their fucking job), then everyone involved loses.

this

you sweet summer child
Shipping has always been a fucking nightmare hellscape even on usenet and early BBS
And for way less popular shows
I knew a kid that flew into a rage and attacked someone over Hamtaro shipping

I reckon the difference now is that the creators are actively pandering to them.

and they make better art

>Ship wars have been fucking insane on the internet in the same exact way they are now for decades.
Were ship wars bad from the beginning? Sure. Were they as bad as they are today? HELL fucking no. Social media has made the situation exponentially worse, because there is no longer any buffer at all between fans and creators.

Literally no one thinks this other than people trying to justify any reason to hate gays

>Were ship wars bad from the beginning? Sure. Were they as bad as they are today? HELL fucking no. Social media has made the situation exponentially worse, because there is no longer any buffer at all between fans and creators.

So what is your solution? Something like Tracer Tong's plan? A complete blackout? Bring in a dark age, and revert back to more helthier and socially inclusive lifestyles? Where nobody can just simply put a wall (their own homes and the internet) between themselves and society and thus simply must become an active part of it? Simple societal structures where the ordinary man can oversee everything locally? Where there's no room for lies, because the ultimate goal of your life is to support the small community (village, family) that you're a part of?

I guess that's a noble enough vision and solution. But the problem is. We're not going to become dumber. We will only get smarter and smarter, with each new generation. Sooner or later, a megalomaniacal psychopath will be born. The desire to make things easier and more efficient, necessitates technological advancement.

My point is we can't go back. I wish we could honestly. But the technologies we built have already made their permanent mark on us.

In what way are they worse
Elaborate for me, because from what I can see they're just more public.

Humanity is doomed mainly due to its limited capacity to relate to large numbers of other people.
After the climate apocalypse a sustainable society would include lots of planned towns separated by walls with only enough people that everyone can empathize with everyone and everyone feels a sense of ownership and involvement in the community's livelihood.
Plus mega city one for those who object or feel wanderlust. A central hub of progress where I ca-where the ruler can oversee technological advancement and societal welfare

My sister once cut my eye because i made fan of her favorite ship. That shit scared the fuck out of me.
I still make fun of her favorite ship. I just run after.

People are just much more emotionally immature nowadays.

>from what I can see they're just more public.
More public, more frequent, and more influential. The hashtag has developed a culture of its own. You can calculate the amount of times a ship phrase is uttered on a website, and have it appear on a column that says "trending" to convince investors that canonizing a ship will make them more profit. Content creators are absolutely influenced by hashtags, which gives shippers more power than they've ever had before.

>My point is we can't go back.
We may not have the power to turn back the clock at this moment. But a disaster will most definitely come to do the job for us. Whether it's self-inflicted (Civil War II, World War III) or thrust on us (solar flare, meteor impact) progress will get snuffed out very soon. I'm convinced of it now.

I hate how mass stupidity has been weaponized to ruin lives for no reason

>I'm convinced of it now.
Based doomer wishing for all of humanity to fucking die. I share your views wholeheartedly. Fuck fascism, fuck order, fuck trying to better, fuck trying to help others. Fuck all of this, it never mattered anyway. What is "real" anyway? It's fucking worthless. Everything that I enjoy and cared for iny my life are things that never existed, never mattered or were consdiered silly jokes since their conception.

youtube.com/watch?v=M1cwK2brVjk

I prayed for a disaster to wipe out humanity since I was a teenager. And we only got the fucking coronavirus. It kills oldfags good but that's not enough. I really hope it mutates into something much, much worse before the end of the year. Catch everybody off-guard. And whoops there goes 20 million people.

The natural progression for doomers should be turning their eyes to the sciences, to actively develop things that will harm humanity. Become like the russian nihilists. Or followers of Sithis. Destruction just for its own sake. Why?

Because there must be something that pulls against Life. Everything is incredibly off-balance in today's world. Too much Life. Too much propagation. Too chummy. You'd think that something "noble" and "pure" like Life should be respected and revered. Yet it only creates more suffering, because, if everything is good and easy, there is nothing to fight against but ourselves.

Therefore a threat of Death that can and will eradicate all of us, is the only thing that can save us, ironically enough. That is the only way to achieve balance.

>Therefore a threat of Death that can and will eradicate all of us
You mean like massive flooding of major population centers and the loss of a huge percentage of viable farmland? In order to do that we'd have to have started working to increase global temperatures decades ago, maybe with some kind of gas that can trap solar radiation in the atmosphere

I've yet to see shipping get as out of control as old Daria of X-Files fandoms back in the day.

I mean, there's more people shouting, but they're wussier overall.

They're worse

Not if you make the characters the characters just get together and focus on the rest

>to have started working to increase global temperatures decades ago
>maybe with some kind of gas that can trap solar radiation in the atmosphere

Ohhhhhh would you look at that. All the native species are dying out in various parts of the world. It's only going to get hotter and hotter, everywhere. The heatwaves in India have already killed millions. The tsunamis generated by that will also fuck everyone who lives on islands. The catastrophes and the ease with which another language can be learned today will cause massive emmigrations. The resulting cultural clashes will further the panic and agression that is developing due to the catastrophies. More concentrated populations will have difficulty of feeding everyone, just look at China. Necessities running scarce will open up avenues of backstabbing and lying and cheating each other.

Yeah I guess we're gonig somewhere. But it's pretty slow. Compare this to the black plague. 2/3 of Europe in less than 10 years. Now that was something. Interestingly enough, that was also something that came from an eastern-asian populace (mongols).
