Regardless of your opinion on the actual movies and what that entails (stuff like the writing, soundtrack, acting, performances, direction) what are your thoughts on the changes to the Batman mythos the Nolan trilogy presented? Batman training with Ras Al Ghul before starting out, the character Rachel Dawes, the reimagined versions of nearly all the villains and their origins, etc.?

The fact that Batman quit makes it a shitty incarnation

Doesn't Batman break the "no killing" rule in these ones, too?

Yeah, throw 'em in the dumpster with the rest.

He had a succesor and had just defeated the last remnant of the LoS, which essentially means no more supervillians ever and no more mob since Joker killed them and the Dent act was passed. It’s what comic Batman always wanted but could never achieve: Gotham’s been turned from Hell on Earth to a Utopia, and he can finally pass on the mantle in peace.

No stupid I mean after the events of TDK.

That’s because DKR was partially adapting The Dark Knight Returns.

No, he just leaves ras to suffer the consequences for his actions

Oh blow it out your ass

It's been a long fucking time since I've seen them so I can't comment on many specific plot points (and idgaf what plot points they got wrong as long as that doesn't bleed into the comics). But I really despise the way that Nolan tried to make Batman and Gotham realistic. To me the Burton movies are perfect. Gotham shouldn't be the world outside your window, it should be a kaleidoscopic ideal of gothic decadence and urban decay. Even the Schumaker movies were much, much better about this.

His rogues don't need to reflect political fears of the moment like terrorism, a war, or class conflict. They're more universal than that. His best villains have always been ones that embody some neurosis or psychological distortion. He's a disturbed person waging a doomed war with the evils and horrors of the human mind.

And the wrong lesson being drawn from the movies must have been a pretty huge part of why the DCEU was edgelord shit at first.

Probably the single thing I do like from a mythic perspective is that they didn't get into batfamily shit until 3 and it was mostly only implied by then. I love the batfamily but it's definitely grown way too crowded in the past 10-15 years and I think you risk taking a way a lot of the darkness from the franchise if you let that continue. And from Batman himself. Ultimately Bruce should be incapable of being a good father and we don't need 12+ heroes running around doing soap operatics for a Batman book (or movie) to be engrossing.

Tldr - I see it as basically the cinematic equivalent of Morrison's run but worse. Brighter, more "realistic". And it doesn't work.

Batman retired in less than a year? Wtf

>No argument

I think that for the most part the alterations to the mythos were fine. Actually Bruce training with the League of Shadows during his sojourn was a clever idea I wish the comics would have adopted. The "realistic" aesthetic worked for that series of movies but I wouldn't want it taking over the comics, series etc. And it would suck if my man Harv was dead, he's my favorite from the Rogues' Gallery.

The manual actually clarified 5 years passed between BB and TDK. Him standing on the rooftop with the Joker card was an epilogue

They got the rogues pretty spot on for what they’re meant to represent in the comics, though. Ras is a much crueler vigilante than Bruce, Crane wants to control those around him with fear, Joker is a misanthrope out to break Bruce’s spirit, Harvey wants revenge on people who’d never face consequences otherwise and Bane/Taila are obsessed with overcoming his limits/succesion

Oh eat shit

He killed Harvey Dent tmto save Gordon's son.

That’s why he quit iirc, innocent people were being caught in the wake of his crusade and he couldn’t abide having Harvey’s blood on his hands

Didn't the full Avengers team were active for like 4 years in the mcu? live action issues I guess.

It's an extremely realistic Batman who had, i think less than ten-year existence activity before disappearing, but it makes sense and basically he stopped the most dangerous criminals which for obvious reasons cannot be a gallery of 50 freaks.

The Joker has never escaped from prison and he rotted in there. Same thing Scarecrow despite Bane's parenthesis. He's also a Batman that at some point overcomes his obsession, which is unthinkable in comics, but here it works.

About all three I really liked the second movie and the first part of the first. The third is not bad, but it seemed a bit inferior to the others.

I liked how they made Bane a big guy.

I liked how Tom Hardy was irl the smallest of all the main actors

Realistic is the last word I’d use to describe Morrison’s run

Anyone have the edit with Bill "CIA" Wilson in it?

My biggest problem with the Nolan trilogy was Batman himself. Bale did a good job with the character silly gravel voice aside, but the whole "Bruce Wayne is the mask" aspect of Batman is missing from it. He clearly did not want to be Batman. Also no real rogues Gallery

Batman training with Ras al Ghul is my favourite addition the nolan films made to the mythos. If Batman gets 100% rebooted they decently should at this to the comics.

Catwoman hating on the rich is as far as i know not nolan exclusive but i like it as a character trait for her nonetheless. My ideal Catwoman would have at least some level of respect for Batman while simultaneously being totally disgusted by someone like Bruce Wayne

begins is a movie
dark knight is kino even if you could take all the batman stuff out
rises is a memsterpiece but jokes aside its horrible

The Talia character is the worst part. If you edit as much of her out as you can you’re left with a pretty good movie

Nice argument

What argument?

Keep making excuses, while BOTH times are inexcusable. Nolan had no interest in Batman proper, just in getting $ to make his passion projects, and boy it showed.

Nolan had to cram a long gap in there to make it plausible that a bunch of construction projects overseen by Bane could have taken place, it’s basically there just for the stadium scene

It's called an elseworlds, dumbass. Exact same thing Miller did when his Batman quit for 10 years.
