Not changing my mind about ST being better than Shrek 2. I'm sorry, but Shrek 2 is soulless. No sincere heart or cute moments. Just a bunch of pop culture references, trans jokes and gross humor. I wouldn't call ST a heartfelt film, but it's definitely a cute one. That's more than can be said for either Shrek 2 or 3

Oscar truly was an idiot for not seeing what he had. It took him an odyssey of fame, materialism and a shallow relationship with a gold digger for him to see it. Personally, i find this type of stories to be compelling. Shark Tale is unique in the sense that's a romantic comedy which just happens to be animated. Can't think of any other Zig Forums film to belong in that genre

He was an allegory that played a role in the movie's message of valuing what you have, whereas Shrek 2 just had this character as a cheap joke to amuse the adults in the theater. ST did it in a more dignified way

Romance doesn't play a role in Shrek 1 until the second half, whereas ST gives it more focus. I do agree with Shrek 2 ( kind of a shame that the only chemistry between Shrek and Fiona happen during that phony montage at the start. They spend the rest of the film arguing and in turmoil )

This is what Shrek 2 was needing : cute character moments. Those writers needed to take break from so much pop culture humor and Disney jabs. They did so in the first film, but not in the second.
