I feel bad for them. They've been trashed for work they had no control over due to an industry that gives no shits about them, all because of a salty, disgraced has-been.
I feel bad for them...
they'll be fine. the new overdone style is the rick and morty look
the current stuff being produced there by its students is okay, which is to say it isn’t all beanmouth
t. actually attended CalArts in another major and went to animator events
predictions. Same thing that happen to matt groening evergreen college will happen to Calarts. Trannies, BLM and living on twitter are dangerous combinations. Calarts have all 3.
Is that what americans had become. really sad
I refuse to accept they are American since most of them don't even want to be.
Evergreen college shit was the precursor to all the BLM riots. Even vice news was against it. Than again that was probably because the BLM tranny leading the students riot was targeting liberal professors for not being woke enough
Honestly I can picture a civil war between tranny BLM and black BLM. People handling BLM money and physical organization are overwhelmingly transgender if they were black at all.
The real question is will the standards for admission suffer as much as the standards for entering the industry?
Most Calarts graduates don’t find work after graduating. Most
alumni shouldn’t be too concern with standards.
This, they should renounce their citizenship or just be tried for treason
you feel bad for a private art school with a 40,000 tuition fee?
>40,000 tuition fee
Oh you poor naive child.
>all because of a salty, disgraced has-been.
Based John K dabbing on CalArts before it was cool.
>I feel bad for them.
Wow you feel bad for spoiled rich kids who have a guaranteed animation career straight out of college regardless of their actual talent?
The US animation industry have no standards, all people do is some storyboards and animatics at most all the actual work is outsourced overseas.
There was literally an entire campaign by angry students about the $50k tuition and it accomplished nothing lmfao except for a bonus scholarship they trotted out that I got
The students that are from there make some GOOD AS FUCK work.
And yet, they get shit on by people who basically love to tell at the clouds
CalArts never had anything to do with the animation style
It's really a stupid broken-phone tier misunderstanding
Cal Arts was always the object of general complaints talking about the art academia basically collapsing (true) and being reduced to Cal Arts as the only "respectable" academy (somewhat true, other serious academies are obsure af), which bothered a lot of people because Cal Arts wasn't actually focusing in art, it was focused on teaching people how the work-related aspects of art (ie the step by step of animation and how digital animation programs work)
"Cal Arts style" was the idiotic name coined for critics of the Adventure Time ultra-minimalistic style that dominated cartoons from 2010 to 2018 more or less. It originated from a misunderstanding that most people directing AT and it's child shows were Cal Arts graduates, which was not true.
John krickfalusi popularized the term by ranting about darg age disney art-style which he attributed to Cal Arts because most -if not all- pre US 2010s animators were from Car Arts. That shit COMPLETELY unrelated to AT and it's style-descendants. Idiots after started claiming Cal Arts taught a specific animation style and eventually attributed it to AT and for some godforsaken reason, Gravity Falls (which ironically JK was actually fond of).
Is it valid to criticize a 10 years trend of style copycats?
Holy shit yes. AT was good the first two years and then was a dumpster fire and most team-members that got to direct shows had the same problem.
Is Cal Arts at fault for anything here?
No. Not at all. CA gets flak for something completely unrelated to them.
do they just teach animations or do they teach actual fine arts as well?
I went to one of CalArts summer program and am not a rich kid. My family were immigrants and working in nonunion jobs. Me and my family scraped money for me to go to the program.
> Gravity Falls (which ironically JK was actually fond of)
I need source of that shit. I don’t believe that pedo liked a script driven cartoon.
aren't they still selective of their talent?
I'd be surprised if more than 5% of the admissions are development cases, that said, being from a family that can give you all the support you need is a huge leg-up even they aren't straight up donating to secure your spot
It's a big school. They teach a lot of things. Animation, fine arts, theater, etc.
I can't believe someone would be so mean to a college that makes millions a year off teaching their students how to use Toon Boom in 2020. Don't they know upper class Californians working in academia have feelings too? So sad. I plan to donate $100,000 to the institution tonight to give them some extra money to wipe their tears with.
I think he only has that hangup about comedy-driven cartoons.
The meme term is the dumbest shit ever spawned from this board, but the school will be fine. Other than some reddit gold hungry edgelords occasionally cyberbullying students, nothing of note has popped up from the memeification of "CalArts style" and the people who go there typically come from families who can handle the tuition. They're just especially mad now that there's no real advantage to their tuition given the physical campus is closed.
Just wished studios around the country didn't have a raging boner for their alumni; there's a lot of really skilled people coming from all sorts of walks of life but it really does boil down to social circles with regards to who gets to actually make money with a safety net on entertainment projects and not just gambling it all like the lucky few outsiders.
it is too late. the border is closed.

>Glutten

Liar, why pull things out of your ass?
