why?
It's ok. Not sure I'd call it the greatest, but it's not bad. Pretty influential though.
Can somebody explain the sunflower absorbtion?
"Graphic novel"
Superman is like a plant. You have to destroy his skeleton or he regenerates.
That doesn’t answer my question.
OP here, I think it has something to do with them being a physical representation of the sun in flower form, 'cause you know superman gets his power and shit from the sun. I mean, it also could just be miller's interpretation of how superman's powers work.
So was he fucked up by the radiation then, or just the explosion?
I think it was a combination of the two, clark isn't invincible. Even before he was hit with the kryptonite arrow, bruce and kelly were able to slap him around. Albeit with the giant bat suit and the tank. Still, the point stands that there are things capable of hurting superman that aren't kryptonite. Sure, superman survived the epicenter of a literal nuclear explosion and came out a horrific mess, but that shit would literally vaporize a normal human. I can understand how even superman could get that fucked up from a nuke.
Okay, but then how does absorbing plant energy heal him?
The plants were storing the sun's energy.
But that’s more radiation!
I hypothesize something akin to how plants get their energy from sunlight absorption, just like superman does. So in theory it could be possible for him to take that residual energy and use it for himself. But again, it could just be Miller taking creative freedom with the character. Either way, it was a pretty interesting scene.
What are some other great, multilayered cape comics, besides the obvious (Miller, Moore, Morrison)? It doesn't have to be Marvel/DC. Runs that go bad don't count.
I'm already going to read Peter Cannon, Earth X, and some Hickman shit, hopefully they don't disappoint too much. What else is there?
It's a little bit more than ok.
He got fucked by the nuke, and now the sun is blocked, so no solar energy to repair himself.
He takes the remnant solar energy from the surrounding plant life.
Going the mythical approach, Superman is a demigod, calls upon Mother Earth for life.
>make a 4-issue miniseries
>call it a graphic novel
NANI
>getting pedantic about the term graphic novel
cringe
Not him, but what does that actually mean?
Pic related is another one of the best graphic novels ever made, even just by the art of it. It's fucking beautiful, but it's also definitely multilayered.
Words have meanings.
What does what actually mean?
It means to over analyze something
And the meaning of the word says that DKR is a graphic novel.
Do you consider Maus a graphic novel?
What do you think?I know what pedantic means.
No. Maus was published over a very long period in RAW.
It was also collected in two volumes that are meant to be consumed like you would a graphic novel.
Okay, so what counts as a graphic novel? Only things that were never published elsewhere? How long does it have to be? What is allowed to be collected in it?
You don't know what the word graphic novel means. Pro-tip: it's not a synonym for any collected edition.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!
You wouldn't consider maus a "Novel", then?
