Isn't Don Bluth one of the best animators ever?
Yes, and those who teach at 21st century CalArts are his antithesis.
Jesus
>Cal Arts
Really jogs the noggin.
Fun fact Don Bluth is Mitt Romney's half cousin.
College is a bubble, and it will pop in our lifetimes. All these fucking professors are going to be in for a rude awakening when they realize their entire livelihood was built around tricking dumbass art kids into getting five figures of debt, rather than actual, tangible skills.
you are a faggot doing the tirsome "Today I will remind them" thing. are you retarded? do you not have an original thought in your brain?
How long do you reckon before somebody in the student loan industry gets fucking killed? Like, somebody working in collections just gets stalked and assassinated by a manic, out-of-his-mind graduate student?
Seething calarts
Man, fuck that place.
I wish he wasn't an active Mormon desu. He actually made The Secret of NIMH, his best project (he also thinks so) during the 17 year period he was disillusioned with the church. After he went back, his films noticeably declined in quality. They were still quite good for the most part, don't get me wrong. But they were definitely more meant solely for children than NIMH was, no real messages adults can take away from something like An American Tail or Land Before Time.
buzzword (to be fair, i read the tweet screen shot and want to harm this person)
Yeah him and Richard Williams (RIP) were the last of the animation old guard that were trained directly under the Nine Old Men if I recall correctly.
What's the branch of Christianity where it's most the case that its adherents can be faithful, and still make good art?
It's gotta be Catholics, right? Faithful Catholics have made some amazing art over the centuries.
and dobson told his daughter to calm her tits
Probably not long. COVID obliterated a LOT of jobs. The only grads I know still working were in compsci and an engineering discipline.
The graduating class of 2020/2021 is walking into a brutal job market, and only the disparaged "flyover" states have even tried to come up with a solution to the college loan problem. (California actually followed suit after other states)
I know in the South, 2-year degrees and trade programs are free for anyone that graduated I think from 2014 and onward?
And in the midwest, you've been able to get accredited four-year degrees in certain fields for about 1/3 the per-term tuition of brick and mortar schools.
Richard Williams, not Robin Williams. Don't make me stick a cobbled shoe up your ass.
i like those paintings where everyone looks like they post on r9k surrounding someone stabbing their balls with a fork.
just being cheeky, fiend. that animation is so gorgeous.
I knew Mike was a party dude, but I didn't know he was the only dude.
Okay, I've seen this screencap like 50 times already and I just have to ask why everyone at that stupid school dislike Don Bluth's "out-dated, overflowy" animation so much? Aren't these the same kind of people that would praise James Baxter's fluid animation?
james baxter funni hourse man xdddd
that's why
Mormons can unironically make good art. Look up paintings of Jospeh Smith. Overall Catholics or the Eastern Orthodox, leaning more towards the Catholics, would probably win due to their paintings and their architecture being consistantly better than everyone elses.
Doesn't matter user, hes a mormon. to them, Mormonism is the foulest, most vile sect of christianity and needs to be wiped off the face of the planet.
attended a college in Massachusetts where a girl admitted to being mormon. for months it was every persons passion project was to turn her into an atheist. when that didn't work, they started a rumor that she was homophobic and she was harrassed so badly she quit.
point to my anecdotal story? They think mormons are worse then Isis.
Have you seen literally any of Toniko Pantoja's work?
Or most calarts students work?
This post doesn't pass the sniff test.
youtube.com
Here is his third year film at calarts.
Any of them really you just don't hear about it much
Remember that there was a time not too long ago that it was taken as red that a man would have some sort of Christian faith
>Toniko Pantoja
Another insufferable Pinoy expat
What is it with you guys? Why do you let random tweets that aren't even popular set you off so much?
It underlines the problem with American animation these days
Although to some extent I can agree Bluths style became kind of off putting especially in his later films but that's more a question of character design than actual technique, which was impeccable
Don Bluth movies (outside of NIMH) are overanimated; they're like if the animator thought, "what if EVERY frame was a keyframe!!" and ended up with completely unrealistic mouth movements and character acting that feels like a really expensive form of dangling car keys in front of a toddler.
Also doesn't help that his work after NIMH is so cheesy it still makes even the cheesiest, pop culture-y-est, Eisner-y-est Disney Renaissance moments feel like something out of Criterion in comparison.
well that was sad as fuck and didn't make me feel good at all. i think i hate humans now
Anyone ever notice the fuckup on the spear guy's hand at about 0:45?
And John K has entered the thread
Richard Williams animated on ones as well
I don't thing you can have too much movement in Animation
>Also doesn't help that his work after NIMH is so cheesy it still makes even the cheesiest, pop culture-y-est, Eisner-y-est Disney Renaissance moments feel like something out of Criterion in comparison
You can thank Mormonism and Steven Spielberg for that. I often wonder what he would have gone on to create had he not turned back to the church.
