The guy was an actual businessman. He did everything right. Got the books out on time. Brought huge profits to the company. Marvel was hitting the big time. Creative types didnt like him because he was an actual professional who ran things like an actual business. These hippy dippy dudes probably saw him as THE MAN and treated him as their enemy. Didn't want to actually play ball and act like proper professionals. Just whine and complain that they had to actually work as proper grown ass adults. They're still like this even to do this day. We've seen what happens when there's no Jim Shooter, and it's not pretty. Comics need artists to produce the comics, but they need businessmen to keep shit running smoothly and efficiently.
Artists are an undisciplined, wide-eyed idealist lot with more creativity than common sense and need a leader to make them do their work on time.
Their perfect story, perfect page, perfect linework will never exist even if they had 1000 years to finish each one. Fuck artists, they need to be reigned in.
