Aliens

Aliens simply being animal people, lazy approach to character design or charming stylistic choice?

What are the chances she gets more porn than M'Ress?

Wouldn't aliens technically be animals though?

It’s CUTE.

>MAAAAAN, ALIENS ARE SO BORING
Yeah, I'm sure your totally original alien concept is sooooo much better. Fuck off.

Depends.

To save time, stop nerd questions, and in live action save the budget the standby is usually “seeded by a progenitor race”.

In that case, no.

I don’t know if Star Trek did that. But Star Wars and Starcraft did, so I’d gamble on yes.

Did you never see the tng episode the chase where they find out about a progenitor race that seeded the universe?

i rather have them then green human, blue human, pointy eared human, black human.

pic related did it best imo

That is lazy as fuck. Animal people is far better than odd-colored caucasians.

Nope.
Not really a Star Trek fan. But the OP question was phrased in general.

Here's an idea, don't have aliens in your story at all.

No.

In Star Trek's case it was because they had extremely limited budget for costumes. By the time when the series had some money, the show established the aliens are all humanoid because some mysterious humanoid ancient alien made them that way.

I love it when it’s a large universe with a combination of animal people, lovecraftian horrors, battle anime aliens, horror manga aliens, cartoonish aliens, off colored humans, twilight zone style beings, transformer like robots, Saturday’s morning cartoon aliens, talking animals, a Superman like race, and just generally weird beings
I like universes where there’s a sense that literally anything could be possible, and you could run into any number of bizarre, funny, or horrifying beings. And yes, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is one of my favorite book series of a time

grAYYYYYS

>I don’t know if Star Trek did that. But Star Wars and Starcraft did, so I’d gamble on yes.
pretty sure ST invented it.

Yes. Aliens in fiction are inevitably a one dimensional allegory for some concept the author wants to talk about, but is too chickenshit to just talk about it.

Lower Decks is an interesting one when it comes to this sort of this. It inherits the "Aliens look exactly like humans but with some shit on the forehead" approach when it comes to the old species established in the live-action shows, and the new ones are basically all furries.

Not counting T'Ana (because her species is from TAS) we've had Pigmen, Lizardmen, Ratmen, Birdmen and Salamandermen.

In Star Trek canon, there was an ancient race of humanoid space travelers that built colonies all across the universe called the Arretans. Their empire fell and their descendants evolved into all the various humanoid subspecies such as Klingons, Vulcans, humans, etc. This is why most of the aliens are basically just humans with one or two distinct features. Also I can fap to aliens that just happen to be cat people or green rather than some realistic but unattractive squid alien.

Doing the best you can with a limited TV budget and a normie audience.

Personally it low-key bugs me because animal people are more of a fantasy/mythology thing and thus clash with the idea of sci-fi. But whatever, porn is porn.

Better a cat person than the 10 billionth insect person.

not if youre good at writing

Star Trek has always been shit.

>inb4 Star Wars
Star Wars has always been shit too.

Caitians have been in star trek since 1973

in the 70s a dog in a fur coat was an alien, your criticism is out of date, we wouldnt get any decent special effects in tv til the 80s.Animal-people will do when we cant create spoon heads

>sci-fi
>good writers
Pfffffffffft!

Yeah... the entire genre was invented and written by and for horny, autistic, lonely incel boys. Its appeal isn't going to ever truly translate well beyond that demographic.

I don't know but I want to fuck that cat so hard.

It can be done really well. Wing Commander comes into mind.

its easy really. Just find someone that isnt going to insert modern politics inot a story set in the future. It should only take about... uh... fuck it nevermind

It's sad that now that we have the means to make the wildest ideas come to life there's so little imaginaton. Star Trek had aliens with some plastic in their face and colored skin because of the budget constrains all the modern scifi doesn't break the mold even though they have the means. The last thing that actually had imaginative aliens in mainstream was probably Men in Black 1

Lower decks didn't invent most or probably any of those.
>Pigmen
Tellarites from TOS.
>Lizardmen
Gorn from TOS
>Birdmen
Either of the bird races from TAS or TOS.

It works for something like Star Fox since everyone is an animal person in that, when they co-exist with humans and more bizarre alien designs however...
