Is his He-Man show likely to be good? What kind of writer is he?

He's written some fun stuff like Smallville Season 11 and Stephanie Brown's Batgirl run. I'm looking forward to it.

I don't think the fight scenes will be as good as Primal's, and the writing will be abysmal.
Genndy is a master, Miller is a dumbass who is trying to make something super-serious out of source material that's not great for super-serious stories.

visually speaking, this already looks like it'll have a better art-style than She-Ra. He-Man has an angular and boxy silhouette there on the right. I'm still expecting this to be disappointing as hell

Yep. The Smith one is an adult-oriented anime-style continuation (think in the vein of Castlevania), the one in the OP is a CG remake of the original aimed at kids.

Hell no, they don't have morals like the tv show but are still pretty goofy stuff. They were toys in a time when toys were meant for actual kids instead of stunted manchildren.

There's two different shows.
One's a continuation of the old one, sorta - Smith is saying he's continuing the show the way he saw it when he was a kid and didn't notice it wasn't serious or that all those swords never seemed to hurt anyone.

Miller's doing a straight-up reboot.

I'm sure two different versions of He-Man coming out nearly simultaneously is a marvelous idea and won't backfire at all.

He-Man worked by being campy as fuck.
If it's not campy as fuck (and it won't be) it'll be far too serious for the source material.

Just look at the trainwreck that was He-Man 2002.

Mattel is infamously paranoid about He-Man since they're still chasing the dream that it'll somehow turn back into a multi-billion-dollar franchise. Which, of course, it won't.

But nonetheless, they'll remain obstinate as fuck and kill any ideas that are too interesting. It'll be bland pabulum that'll make Bleach look good. That's not a knock against anyone working on it, who I'm sure will do their best. I'm just saying that's how Mattel fucking rolls.
