I'd sequel Extremely with Max IMMEDIATELY out of college, dating Roxanne, and on a job search, PJ working for his dad and dating Beret Girl, Goofy married to Sylvia, Pistol in high school, and no extremely weird status quo shake ups.

The running bit can be Max never can keep a job due to events outside of his control. You could even have shorts of him at work themed like the old narrated Goofy shorts where his job is explained to the audience that inevitably end in him being fired or the business closing while keeping the rest of the show as at home sitcomy shit.
