The original history may be bad, but they at least told a story that was anti-racism and has some basis in reality. If they have balls they'll do it and make it less filtered. Idiots on both ends of the horseshoe will be triggered and everyone else can just watch the damn movie.

Funny how all of the underrated Disney movies with real soul, like Hercules, Mulan, and Pocahontas, have had the biggest amount of bitching from the “MUH APPROPRIATION” crowd. Wish we could go back to the era where Disney had the balls to say, “Be glad anyone’s making a movie to honor you, crybabies,” and then do their own thing.

Oh no way will there be one in this decade. The only films that get remade are the ones banking off nostalgia or so Disney reaffirm their dominance with a particular property in the public conscious.

Aside from one great song, Pocahontas has no real nostalgic value to anyone but chicks who enjoy the love story. But even they are now forbidden from enjoying it in polite company because its an interracial coupling between a native woman and a colonizing white man. Also the fact that it romanticizes historical events that were actually creepy and weird adds to the difficulty of trying to adapt it to “realistic” live action.

These remakes are built to be nostalgic cash grabs that sell their existence off being more mature but also more “woke”, and since Pocahontas can do neither, it is essentially a non starter.

Honestly I'd run with it, maybe keep the forest magic aspects. Make John Smith and Pocahontas into more a platonic sibling friendship with the twist of a child showing him the errors of materalism devoid of spirituality.

The real Pocahontas was 10 when she first meet the 40 year old bearded John Smith. She also didn't love John Smith, and never even actually saved him. That was something Smith made up in his account years later. She was eventually kidnapped by the English, her child and husband kept from her (the child was cared for by the village and her husband, Kocuum, was murdered by Jamestown colonists after her kidnapping) and raped by the English before being forcibly baptized "Rebecca" and pressured into a political peacekeeping marriage with John Rolfe. During the marriage she was still captive, as she was not allowed to see her father or child. She died under mysterious circumstances after being taken to England as a show of a "civilized savage" to the king at the age of 21.

Then there's the pattern of nu-Feminist Controlled Disney moving away from things that might be viewed as sexualizing a Disney princess, and are slowly toning down, and removing things that make them look sexy or attractive. Notice how new reimagned artwork, and dolls of Pocahontas remove her boobs, and curvy body.

I just found out recently. I like Disney's Pocahontas way more than the real Pocahontas. Disney's Pocahontas is more fun and way more marketable.

I hope they do make a new live action cash grab so we can get new base Happy Meal toys, Nestle chocolate bars, and dolls!
