Movin' right along.
Why was the entire Acapulco arc so much better than this? Both had character development.
I'm done, sorry guys but I'm done, this was my breaking point, fuck this shitty webcomic and fuck you Zig Forums for making know it existed.
Maybe I'll hope back if Mike kills himself
I guess this is "Abbey admits he's wrong" which is a pretty big event for the (post-chokeslam) version of the character, but it's kind of fizzle.
What irritates me is, like at many, many other times in the comic, the character does not develop naturally. They just respond right away to an emotional outburst. Development done in the span of five in-world minutes. We never even saw Abbey considering that Paulo might have his own issues before this chapter.
You're not wrong in the slightest, but imagine this arc getting drawn out even further. Which is the lesser evil?
3 more page?
So after this PauloxDaisy gonna be canon.
I mean instead of having Abbey constantly trying to convince people of how shitty Paulo is, we could have spent some of that time with him considering whether that's true or not or even accepting the possibility that he might not be. He almost did so when Jasmine talked to him but went right back to status quo, so instead of changing over time it looks like he just ping ponged for a brief second. Using the same number of pages, the development could have been much more nuanced.
wow someone called it 4 weeks ago this would happen... it was obvious but still hats off
Considering all the other times he's flip flopped on this, why is this instance any different, what's stopping him from hating paulo again after this chapter
Yeah, I get you and agree. But I'm saying that since we're stuck with Taeshi's eternal thumb-twiddling as canon, the only real options would be to go forward with a longer, nuanced, and probably boring arc, or to just rip the band-aid off and check that box.
This is a much larger gesture and it feels final.
I really have no idea why Abbie hates Paulo so much. Something about bullying, but still is a grudge that makes him look as psychotic as Alejandro
also found this image idk what Augustus has to do with it
youtube.com
Right so this doesn't really address either of their reasons for having a problem with the other, and it's still weird that apparently Abby was retarded enough to think mothers just couldn't be bad people, full stop, but whatever, maybe this plot thread can finally be laid to rest now.
Daisy's in the page preview. As much as I've been speculating that Abbey might finally realize Daisy's part in what he used to just blame Paulo for, there's three pages left so that shit ain't happening.
stop your negativity and start drawing the teacher for better thread
See you next week
>Daisy's in the page preview.
If only both the boys would tell her she fucked up.
Paulo used to dump on other kids (including Abbey) a lot more to hide his insecurities, basic bully behavior. He also played up a ladies' man image. Daisy, who Abbey liked a lot, always tried to downplay Paulo's shithead tendencies. All of these traits reminded Abbey of his abusive, womanizing dad, and what he did to Abbey's mom. Over time, this image of Paulo as a jackass manipulator who had Daisy wrapped around his finger solidified in Abbey's mind. Which on paper reads all fine and dandy. The problem is, why doesn't Abbey believe Paulo can change? We'd have to examine their more recent interactions to see if basic logic holds up. The problem is I can't actually remember anything because modern BCB is boring as fuck and "plotpoints" rarely stand out.
>I really have no idea why Abbie hates Paulo so much.
Abbey dislikes Paulo because he kept making fun of him and others at school. He also didn't approve of Paulo sleeping around and "manipulating" women despite the fact that Paulo was a dedicated, good boyfriend to both Tess and Jasmine. And Rachel was the one who actually took advantage of him first before proposing the friends-with-benefit thing.
His hatred only got worse when Daisy started taking Paulo's side in everything and started being flirtatious with him. Paulo is ultimately the reason he and Daisy broke up in Abbey's eyes.
>also found this image idk what Augustus has to do with it
He's putting Daisy's love interests again each other so he can move in as the rebound. August deserves better.
>The problem is, why doesn't Abbey believe Paulo can change?
The simplest answer is having Abbey consistently hate Paulo = drama = "good story" to Taeshi
The more detailed answer for the sake of something to talk about...Abbey doesn't want to believe that Paulo can change because if he accepts that, then he accepts the idea that his abusive father could change, too.
You're the hero this board deserves.
So him literally saying to Sue that he knew she was right, did not feel like a final gesture?
Come on dude we can't have three threads in three weeks it doesn't work.
As a previous user stated, none - absolutely NONE of this feels organic and absolutely is hamfisted so they can stop playing with this plotpoint.
Abbey never considered Paulo's side of things, never ever saw him as anything else then someone to seethe at. Vice versa with Paulo, they never once really considered the other's opinion and it's all been forced by Daisy's hand because she doesn't want to deal with the drama.
Abbey suddenly 'sympathizing' with Paulo doesn't come from a natural realisation they both had similar shitty pasts or common ground but rather as Taeshi put it "Abbey realizing moms can be BAD" which is the most juvenile shitty reason that could possibly be given.
There is no nuance, no forethought. Once again Paulo steals the emotional breakdown of another character by crying how shitty *his* life is and how bad *he* suffers.
This isn't even a discussion at all, they basically stared down one another and bitched out their problems. It's so melodramatically pathetic for such a long-running rivalry. But then again I am not surprised. All of the BCB 'dramatic' moments or suddenly character changes amount nothing more then "Who can throw the most scathing insult" or "Who is yelling loud enough and crying the hardest"
Actually, not even scathing insult, it's most like some real shitty "Gotcha" line that makes everyone stop in their tracks.
But hey, what do you expect from someone who stopped maturing at the age of 13 and still pretty much types like one despite being well into her 30s.
>The more detailed answer for the sake of something to talk about...Abbey doesn't want to believe that Paulo can change because if he accepts that, then he accepts the idea that his abusive father could change, too.
Wow, if only that was based on a story beat, like Abbey getting a letter from his dad. Something something, prison made him reflect on his choices bla bla trying to reconnect. I don't see why Abbey would buy it for one moment, but there you go.
so Augustus actively incentivized the drama?
I know he is obsessed with Daisy, but i dont remember him ever interacting with Abbey or Paulo to increase the hatred between the two, hell i dont even think he knows that they hate each other
>Once again Paulo steals the emotional breakdown of another character by crying how shitty *his* life is and how bad *he* suffers.
Paulo Classic never fucked around with people but NuPolo becomes a narcissistic drama queen and it's spun as him becoming a better person!
>Zig Forums understands Taeshi's characters way better than she does
A sad realization.
Augustus slipping back into a manipulator role would be both interesting and consistent with his character, so obviously it won't happen.
>Paulo Classic never fucked around with people
Bitch are you for real
really? paulo constantly bullied abbey, even joking about his dead mother which is way over the line. And he was his gf's best friend to boot. why wouldn't he hate him
He did playground pranks and "ur a faget" tier shit but he never did this "I am SAD so you have to be nice to me!" shtick.
>joking about his dead mother
Can anyone post an example of this besides the bit from his monologue about Abbey and Daisy should get back together?
Funniest thing is what this conciliation means for abbey's character. Him and Paulo didn't come to a better mutual understanding, no - Abbey is just such a white knight that he instantly stops disliking anyone who cries in front of him
We either spend another day spreading jam onto the burnt toast that is this comic, or jam the knife in the toaster and just end it.
That's still fucking with people, genius. It's just a different, less "manipulative" flavor. Airquotes used here because I don't think Paulo's intentionally trying to play the crying game. He's just another result of poor writing.
Do not read this comic.
>national coming out day came and went and as usual I just feel kind of sick and sad and quiet and conflicted, like there’s peanut butter in my mouth, and I don’t know if that will ever change
>So I’m just going to project onto my characters like I always do
What did she mean by this?
Ah yes, Taeshi is either still bisexual in the closet or lesbian in the closet who has to swallow her pride and cope with her husband/handler because she is too stuck in her ways and wants that weird fairy-tale-esque mythos with their childhood romance making it that is also promoted in her life's work aka BCB.
I think her aversion to men and gay men comes from her abuse as a kid tho.
Sadly I've seen this in most cases of gay/lesbian folks. Many gay men molested when they are young by men go on to date men, many lesbians molested when they are young tend to only date women and exclude men.
Doesn't *always* happen but happens more often then most probably want to say.
>every connection is sexual
Tumblr gays are so tiresome.
