Is The Aristocats considered popular? Today I saw facial mask aimed at children with Marie on and it surprised me so much.

To me it is...

No, it's pretty obscure. Marie's just a "cute cat" that's universal enough to be slapped on merch and it'll still sell without needing to know about/be interested in the source material

Marie is extremely popular in Japan and has fucktons of merchandise.

Japan loves Marie.

Other than Marie, nothing about it is particularly well known. I personally love it, but I get why it's generally considered forgettable

It kinda is
Like said before Japan loves Marie
Furries love Duchess
and Mexicans love O'Malley mostly because of who voiced him

There was talk about The Aristocats getting a spinoff starring OP pic related (is it Marie? Maria? Can't recall), but it didn't end up happening.

Wasn't that supposed to be a sequel?

Reminder that Robin Hood is getting a shitty CGI/Live action hybrid remake, I bet Aristocats is next so Disney will have some shit to dump on Disney plus.

I would enjoy a good CGI version of Aristocats. I think it is a good choice for a remake and one that I actually wouldn't mind seeing. I think that you could do lots of fun and fancy visual things with the cats and other animals, and the setting of rural France and Paris could be cool.

There has been an upsurge in Marie merch, specifically. It's really cute. Beyond that, I'm not sure why.

the only people that like it jerk off to the characters.

>they're going to ruin robin hood now

I don't know any concrete details,. but I could have swore it was to be a series.

And a manga

>live action aristocats
>they don't express
>Dutchess and O'Mally don't dance
>the kittens don't paint or play piano
>the old, rich lady will be played by a black

>Germán Valdés

some people just like some random characters from show more than the protagonists, Zig Forums is a great example to the rule.

Like some people said, Marie is super popular in Japan. Also, watched the hell out of Aristocats as a kid because it was one of the few Disney movies we had on VHS growing up.

>Furries love Duchess

They do not. There are female animals that get anthro art. My Little Pony comes to mind, but Duchess gets nothing really.

Pretty sure it's just Marie. She even has a Japanese shojo manga where she's the pet/mascot to a Japanese princess or something.

...

This. No one likes Marie because of her movie, they like Marie because "cute cat." Her being a Disney character is just a coincidence.

Aristocats is in that same category as Robin Hood of being one of the few popular 70s Disney movies and the characters got a decent amount of use in parks and certain kinds of merch well into the 90s. Though the other characters don't really get that use anymore, Marie's still riding some of that 90s wave where the Disney Store gave her Pooh/Seven Dwarfs tier treatment as well as being a cute white cat that could be pushed as a Disney Hello Kitty alternative.

Didn't see that but yeah, this.

Even now she, along with the rest of the kittens, have a decent merch selection at the parks. In capeshit terms, she's a beloved c-lister.

Is The Rescuers not popular as well? All of the '70s Disney films did financially well, actually. Aristocats did ridiculously well - I just looked up how much it grossed and adjusted in by 1970s standards and it is around 1.2 billion USD. And I'm pretty sure that's not counting re-rereleases or media releases. Or merchandise obviously.

So, I think the verdict is that The Aristocats is popular. Maybe more-so if you're old.

I'm not sure you can call any Disney movie "obscure".

My mom has a water container with Marie, it's really popular despite no one remembering the movie's name
I feel like this towards Pokemon, a world of magical creatures and I had to like a Fire Tortoise the most

I'd say Rescuers Down Under is much more well known than Rescuers. Fantasia 2000 is also pretty overlooked.

Is it good?
