I can't wait for ten years into the future, when lame nerds will start looking back with nostalgia at current "alternative" girls.

Because while I really liked wearing dark makeup, dying my hair, wearing combat boots, sporting a trench coat, ultimately it becomes exhausting to pure on that much makeup everyday. Eventually, if you are actually a depressed person, eventually you're gonna stop giving a shit about making sure your leather jacket has enough safety pins.

I guess normal people could make an argument about how such a "look" isn't appropriate in most job settings. I know a buddy of mine had to give up her dimple piercings because it was deemed a "health hazard".

However, in terms of my experience, I basically saw no point in wasting all this time and effort dressing goth. For what? So that people know I'm sad? So that guys can cum to me? Fuck that. I'm wearing men's plaid sweatpants and a sweater right now eating a rare steak and I haven't shaved or worn makeup - black or otherwise - in close to a decade now.

I've seen several at shows, but seeing a goth walking around on the street has been pretty rare since since the mid 2000's near me (Seattle), and even then it was really uncommon.

I mean it really is. I don't wanna fall back into adolescent "poser" No True Scottsman nonsense, but really miserable people do not have the mental energy to give a fuck. When I was wearing goth makeup I was infinitely more carefree and happy because I had time and disposable income to spend on weird thrift store clothes or whatever. Plus, it's tight and uncomfortable and if you're like me you're already an introvert who doesn't like going outside anyway.

TLDR: the realest "goths" ie people who actually understood emotional pain and suffering, were intelligent, introspective, etc. were often normal people or dressed slovenly. Kids with the time to seem sad rarely are, to paraphrase Hamlet.

I get that, but if all being "goth" amounts to is an outfit and makeup it sounds like cogfop larping than anything else. Almost no one does the full get up every single day of their lives and typically, outside of high school kids, you see goth's "dress down" as it were for their day to day lives. They leave their hair down, or pull it back, they don't wear all the make up, they might still wear all black with sparse accent coloring, but they're more event specific (work clothing, casual clothing to go to the grocery store, shit like that).

As a former goth I can assure you that all of this shit is fucking LARPing and no intelligent person would do what you're suggesting deliberately. Like why wear black? I wear black sometimes because I like it, but why? Why the cultural obsession with consuming products (hair dye, makeup, black clothes) to assume an identity? Why give a shit whether others perceive you as goth or punk or whatever?

That's ultimately the rub of all alternative fashion displays. Essentially it all boils down to insane posturing and insisting you don't care what others think while simultaneously preoccupying oneself with being an authentic goth and not a LARPer. It's literally on par with trannyshit. "I want people to see me as dark and brooding so I'll wear black." "I want people to see me as a woman so I'll wear a frilly tutu and outrun every actual woman at the Boston Marathon and call myself Lily". It's all insane posturing and anyone who actually internalises the message or ethos or goth or punk culture would do away with it entirely. Again, this is why I wear sweatpants.

Well dark makeup always heightens constrast which makes things for visually appealing. However, my own personal armchair psychologist analysis as someone who (1) has lurked on Zig Forums for more than a decade now and (2) a former goth chick is that there is this perception that goth chicks are more accessible than the blonde bimbo. Check out the recent husbando thread, all these dudes were losing their shit over women wanting to fuck Rusty Venture or Bill from Eltingville when it makes perfect sense. Lonely, insecure women (the kind that read comics) cannot imagine a world where they get Chad. Whenever they imagine themselves with Chad they just assume he'll inevitably leave them. Losers like Bill and Rusty feel more accessible, attainable. You feel like you can actually inspire real love in this person.
