It's because Dumbledore already knew Gryffindor would win the cup, and he wanted to honour Neville's sacrifice in the meantime. Harry getting 2 million points then and there wouldn't have made a difference. That's the real reason.

Wizards have about a 6th grade understanding of math (if their parents decided to teach them before Hogwarts) that is correct.

The thing is that Harry Potter was never supposed to be an exercise in world building, it was the story of a young kid escaping his horrible family to enter a magical world where he is special. That world doesn't need to make that much sense, it just needs to be coherent enough to fulfill Harry's escapism adventures. Quidditch or wizard money does not need to make sense as they are essentially just British jokes about sports and economy, while again fueling the story of the kid that turned out to be special.
This stuff only really became a problem when people tried to turn Harry Potter into an expanded universe, because suddenly it needed to be coherent and take itself seriously.

Hermione has no magical parents, a lot of people probably had magic but never had a magic upbringing. A lot like harry where he lived with the dursley's and never had a chance to practice magic. I think it's basically like school where you may or may not have knowledge going into it but you learn as you go. Plus, having the school library they had a chance to expand their magical knowledge. I love Harry Potter, however this is not Zig Forums related.

Once you have multiple books with an over arching storyline, world building is necessary otherwise the story gets resolved due to deus ex or wands that will decide not to work on you for some reason, oh wait.
