You know, that could be an interesting story. Maybe even have Batman be out of the picture for some reason, like either away on Justice League activity, or some charity as Bruce Wayne. So Joker, at first readying for a night of mayhem to draw out Batsy, finds out the alien monster clowns are starting shit, and ends up rousing up the criminal underworld of Gotham to fight the monsters because "The only one who gets to clown around town is ME!"
You then have a shitload of mayhem with Joker being completely careless in his feud with the killer klowns, but maybe sometimes admitting some of their gimmicks (like the cotton candy webbing) look like fun toys for him to steal and use for whenever Batman shows up.
