so the image of Ren & Stimpy has been tarnished by association and any new product that features the characters will receive no substantial support from the audience that matters most. if the reboot ends up happening is because CC chose to support the show despite the obvious backlash or development was already too far in advance to be cancelled.

Nick keeps selling Ren & Stimpy merch, out of all the 90s Nicktoons Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy are the only ones who keep getting new merch on a regular basis.
They are pretty popular in LatAm and Japan too, I bet the Reboot is going to last at least 2 seasons.

As far as I know CC didn't give a shit about the backlash, I've heard they just didn't know what to do with it (they hired cartoon writers even tho R&S is a storyboard driven show) If it was shelved then it probably was because they needed time to figure things out. People who are apparently working on it have been teasing it was still happening too but either way It's probably gonna suck aside from visuals if the shit about it being handled by cartoon writers is truth

I think Viacom wanted the Spongebob crew to make more TV-14/TV-MA gags, but didn’t want to sully the Spongebob brand, and since R&S already had a cartoon for adult they went ahead and used those characters instead.
