Be honest: Does he really look like Barbara's type?
Killer Moth
Eh, he seems cute. I'd fuck him.
sure he looks attractive enough, isn't his voice supposed to be his biggest appeal though? A commanding and distinctive voice can get you farther than you'd think.
She's more of a bird-boy girl.
She likes gimpy simps. Get over it.
Must be how he's able to recuit for the Misfits at all despite his reputation.
Eh. Birds, bats, moths... if it’s got wings, she’s there.
He nearly drowned Jim. How could Barbara go for any guy that put her father in such danger?
Remember he has a deep voice. He can make her wet just by breathing.
I don’t know, ask Jason Bard.
This is what he originally look like but he did had work done.
There's only one issue left. :( I this really going to stick? Are we going to have to deal with Jason's simpy face in the background whenever Babs shows up as Oracle?
You'd need work done too after this.
That kind of rugged mid-century look works though. Especially if paired with a deep, commanding voice.
Except he looks like this now.
Still muscled and decently good looking. He isn't "pretty boy" pretty, but he's by no means an uggo.
Wrong, he looks like this now.
That's explicitly a non-canon anthology series though. IIRC, Joker War had him in his Nu52 design for some reason.
>Joker War had him in his Nu52 design for some reason.
Please no. He looked kind of badass in his Batgirl appearance!
I probably like the Nu52 design the most out of anyone in the KM and BatMoth threads. I think it has the right mix of garish and low-effort to make it work. It's what I imagine Dru would rock when he first steps out as a villain, and something he finds himself returning to more often than he'd care to admit after a failed scheme.
I doubt it. We might be looking at a Babs/Todd resurgence soon, between Two Jokers and now Tynion getting his hands back on her after how much Batman Eternal teased it.
Okay but you have shit taste so it doesn't matter what you think.
I'd rank as the worst. His most recent appearances tend to wash out the colors too much and lose the contrast with Batman's costume.
Are they really going to ground her and relegate her to the desk job as Oracle now? That doesn't really sound like a promotion to me. More like a way to quietly get rid of a character.
Maybe, but going from a senior position you were pretty shit at and floundered to make work for a decade back to a desk job you excel at isn’t the worst thing.
Interest in Batgirl has waned (because outside of Simone and the first part of the Stewart/Fletcher run no one really had any ideas of how to handle the character and editorial was relentlessly fucking over anyone on the book) so they decided to stick her back as Oracle because Babs as Oracle was popular (nevermind the fact that by the time the Nu52 had come around Oracle had been reduced to plot device and had been written into a corner so hard they had to soft reboot the character). Oracle peaked in the pre-/post-IC era but by the time Final Crisis wrapped she was already on the slide down.
It's probably going to be more of the same going forward. We've heard a lot about cuts and firings, and going digital, but nothing about a clear direction.
As much as Zig Forums likes to toot its own horn about its ideas, the idea of a Batgirls book with Cass and Steph in the field with Babs as mission control who occasionally takes to the field is a solid hook and gives everyone a little something to like.
Oracle is a very limited character and that's the problem. If DC didn't know what to do with Batgirl (or more likely, stubbornly refused to make this character work), what makes you think they will know what to do with Oracle, especially since she's primarly a passive support character that can only work bouncing off another, more reactive superhero? More than likely they will shove her aside to be a just plot device like a Batcomputer or something, with an excuse of "well, that's what fans wanted in the first place".
Every thread on this topic seems to have this argument.
>b-but how do you know Oracle/Cassgirl will be better?
We don’t, but there’s at least still some potential there to work with that hasn’t been completely driven into the ground by a decade of garbage.
It's not so much an argument as it is a concern. It's also why we tend to lean towards Babs not being recrippled, because it allows for her to be far more proactive in what she can do.
Personally, I just like the imagery of all three of them being active at once. Everyone has their favorite Batgirl, and while there are some that feel the bat family is bloated as it is, I feel we can at least allow Babs her own legacy.
Well, Babsgirl also had potential at first and it was stomped to the ground by DC editorial. In Nu52 sky was the limit and they fucked it up royally. And I am pretty sure they will just try to stubornly copypaste Batgirl 2000 now, despite the Oracle/Cass dynamic not being there. Because DC is just that creatively vapid.
The Batgirls have their niche in that they don't work for Batman, they work with him. As much as Bruce likes to play head honcho they're not his underlings, they're affiliates.
The problem is when Cass and Steph are both present, Babs brings nothing to the table except stuff she could already do remotely as Oracle. I wouldn’t mind a Batgirls trio book, but I think DC is too terrified of letting anyone notice her redundancy in the field.
Their niche was kinda stolen by Batwoman, which was the other reason why Babsgirl got so fucked over creatively. She can't be "female Batman" because that's KK, she can't be the techie, because that's Tim, she can't be Batgirl who Oracles because fuck you, I guess. And then you are left with nothing to work with.
And what does Steph bring to the table? Everybody keeps saying how crucial Batfamily member she was, and in reality, if there is one Batgirl that's redundant, it's her. She's not a fighter like Cass, not as smart and resourceful as Babs, she's just the ditzy one.
