>marvel attempts to make an all female team book
>most of the team is characters nobody cares about
What were they thinking with this line up? Why no Invisible Woman or Black Widow?
A-Force
Honestly, A-Force should have been its own dimension. Arcadia was fun in Secret Wars, so just do that.
Making it an pseudo Avengers team was dumb.
Instantly tells you they are secondary.
Should have gone with The Liberators or something.
Also good creators might have helped.
This. An AU where it utilized fan favorites like Storm and Sue without compromising their own titles would have worked great. Plus, would have allowed more impactful villains like Doom.
>implying people care about sue or widow
Their solos sell like shit
Carol is the only decent selling female nowadays. Shulk and Dazzler had long running solos back in the day. This is pretty much the best team they could have made at the time. Rogue was in uncanny avengers, and Storm was leading the X-men.
Yee, I liked the the Secret Wars mini of A-Force and foolishly had hoped it would work as an on-going. But it didn't.
Too bad Tom Brevoort wants everything to always go back to Earth because "Nobody gets invested if it's not tied to Earth"
This is kinda true but I feel like they could break the conditioning if they stopped wanking earth so hard. If it wasn't the center of the multiverse people would care about other stuff, Same with non 616 universes.
An A tier cast of female characters would do better but they obviously did it to push specific characters and it didn’t work out because the team didn’t have a good dynamic and not much star power.
Jen and Carol are A-Listers though
And they were pushing Medusa hard during this era
Dazzler had one of the longest running female solos
Nico is one of the most popular characters in her age group
Fearless Defenders on the other hand was full of literally whos
>Dazzler had one of the longest running female solos
42 issues isn't even that long except for at Marvel who have only had 1 female hero to ever reach 100 issues. Also Dazzlers solo was 40 years old when A-Force came out.
Shame Dazzler looks like crap, unrecognizable in this cover.
Anyway, at least it had Shulkie, Elsa and... I think Valkyrie was in it?
>characters nobody cares about
>why no Black Widow
>Jen and Carol are A-Listers though
Let's not get carried away here.
>40 years old
I meant 30.
>Carol is the only decent selling female nowadays.
Does Carol sell decently?
They never bothered to give a reason why all of these characters teamed up or why they remained a team.
She's a solid mid-tier book.
>She's a solid mid-tier book.
And by that you mean enough to stave off cancellation and the inevitable reboot.
She was managing 25k-35k sales pre-COVID.
Would the fading popularity of her movie have anything to do with that?
Let's be fucking honest, nobody cares about Earth in Marvel either. Seattle was nuked, and Bendis had Iron Fist make jokes about moving out there a few months later.
By Earth, they mean NYC. By NYC, they mean a small collection of heroes.
Tom Brevoort mistakes "Earth being threatened every week" for "People being invested in the characters"
>Fearless Defenders on the other hand was full of literally whos
Fun fact! Cullen Bunn wanted No-Name of Brood on the roster!
It suffered being derailed by events
Doubtful. Movies don't really move floppies, they move TPBs.
Literal whos aren't a bad choice for team books. Since no one cares you can do what you want with them, as opposed to popular characters which could entail other writers and editorial exerting direct control over your plots.
Make it a spin on Brides of Set involving the Serpent Crown across the multiverse.
None of Marvel's females can sell comics, because none of them are important in the Marvel universe.
Cause Carol is Marvels most popular character
The only 2 Avengers that outsell her book are Thor and Hulk. And Thor is riding off a ton of Cates speculators that eat up whatever shit he is throwing out
It was only made because G. Willow Wilson loved Singularity so much that she didn't want to throw her away after Secret Wars ended, even though she ultimately amounted to nothing in A-Force and was mostly just there as a cute mascot. Her appearance in Kamala's book was probably the biggest moment she got.
>jen
>an a-lister
Not quite but easily one of the most popular female heroes
>carol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
And now Car-Ell is forcibly shoving men into her.
Also what moron decided that her real name was Car-Ell? When you read it aloud it sounds like Carl not Carol.
Appropriate
That would have been fun
