People only like this because of nostalgia right?

I never really cared for it in the day but still watched it because I bored. I recently watched several of the episodes and they were pretty poor. It's an obnoxious educational show to be honest makes by annoying characters and songs. One of the segments with that poor dog and bratty child is extremely insufferable. I honestly can't believe anyone over 10 can say they find this amusing. It's definitely do to nostalgia and probably due to an overload of coom brain thanks to the nurse and mink.

I still find this show hilarious, though the show did have some segments that werent that good (For example, The Hip-Hippos)

As one of the last of a cresting wave of slapstick comedy cartoons I still love Animaniacs. I appreciate that and their propensity to leave humor on puns, and I hadn't seen a swatch of it as a kid and since I lived in bumbfuck the fox station showing it shut down as it was airing. Nostalgia is when I cry watching Looney Tunes because of a Marc Antony and Pussyfoot short.

Animaniacs has a lot of miss moments, but when it hits, it really hits a home run. Also the educational parts are genuinely fun and actually helped me on elementary school tests as a kid, so fuck you.

The superior show.

Nope, TMS put alot of care and effort into it, they put every TV studio to shame and no other TV series has ever been on the same level since due to time and budget.

There was a reason why Ghibli kept on using them, this and Tiny Toons are why.

Don't do that

Are you saying animation doesn't matter.

>the GOOD parts of Animaniacs
Pinky & the Brain, 1/3rd of the main trio's shorts, Slappy Squirrel shorts that focus on her and not her nephew, Mime Time/Good Idea Bad Idea
>the OK parts of Animaniacs
1/3rd of the main trio's shorts, some Goodfeathers, some of the songs
>the SHIT parts of Animaniacs
Chicken Boo, Katie Ka-Boom, Mindy and Buttons, Rita and Runt, Slappy Squirrel shorts that focus on the nephew, Hip Hippos, rest of the Goodfeathers shorts, other 1/3rd of main trio's shorts

It was a mixed bag of quality. You never knew if you were gonna see a short you would be laughing about for weeks, or some boring shitfest that only appealed to the writers. I still get a laugh out of the 65th Anniversary special. How they got Wakko attempting to shove his own head up his ass beyond the censors, I'll never know.

Did anyone else play the animaniacs computer game? I don’t remember hardly anything about it except that I used to play it religiously as a kid, even though I never got that interested in the cartoon

That's not a bad batting average for a show that cranked out 65 episodes. The other 65-episode daily shows have pretty similar batting averages, like Batman (but even a shitty Batman episode is tolerable because it's about Batman, whereas no one likes a shitty episode about any Animaniacs character except Pinky & the Brain).

People have fondness because they remember the good episodes and the weaker episodes are kind of a blur. Especially with a show that had at least two different stories every episode, so there was likely to be at least one enjoyable short in any random episode.

Paul Rugg was one of the few writers who could make the Warners consistently funny without being obnoxious, it's not a surprise that the reboot talked to him about potentially coming back (he said on Twitter that he felt he'd done everything he could do with the Warners and it was time for new blood, and he's got "Earth to Ned" so he probably doesn't need the work).

Agreed. Hell, Gargoyles was wildly inconsistent in quality for the 2nd season. Sure, there was golden stuff like A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time, City of Stone, High Noon, and Hunters Moon, but there was also the majority of shit in the big boat adventure that lasted most of the season.

Animaniacs taking the variety show approach led to moments of conflicting tone.

I'd argue that Rita and Runt on their own weren't bad, but the problem was a usually more heartfelt, story driven cartoon coming off the heels of a Warner Trio slapstick comedy.

Tiny Toons meanwhile was almost exclusively a comedy. If they were going to do a more heartfelt story it kept the same tone throughout rather than going back and forth.

Rita and Runt was usually an excuse to have older music on the show that would mainly appeal to adults. They got a talented singer, had to put her to use somehow.

One interesting comparison between Animaniacs and Tiny Toons is both were somewhat derivative of the mainstream comedy at the time. Tiny Toons was a lot of situational and dialogue related humor like the popular sitcoms at the time, while Animaniacs was a lot of wacky personalities and lolsorandum humor like Pauly Shore.

Tiny Toons was better, Freakazoid is better than both.

Minerva could have worked if they stuck with the original idea of her being a genderflip of the Tex Avery wolf instead of making her a put upon attention seeker dealing with leering men

>Rita and Runt was usually an excuse to have older music on the show that would mainly appeal to adults. They got a talented singer, had to put her to use somehow.
The writers totally admitted a lot of segments like Rita and Runt and the Goodfeathers were super indulgent. They even got Bernadette Peters to voice Rita. And that was getting a legit Broadway actress and singer who did a lot of musicals during the 90's. They dropped the segments after the first series because it was hard to get Peters back between her busy schedule working Broadway and because of union rates she was the highest paid cast member so budget reasons. They had the same issue on Freakazoid with casting David Warner as The Lobe even though he was in some huge films in 1995 (He was the bad guy's main "henchman" in Titanic) but they worked around that by limiting his appearances.

If anything, I think this show is even funnier now that I'm an adult. Not every joke is a winner, but it sort of follows the Mel Brookes school of comedy. In that, they throw so many jokes at you, that if one doesn't land, you hardly have time to even acknowledge it before another joke is coming at you.

When Animaniacs/Tiny Toons were good, they were really good. When they were bad, they were abysmally bad. Even as a fan, I have to admit I'm being selective with what I remember about it.
That said, shows need to be judged against their peers. For kids without cable, their only options were the Steven Spielberg presents shows on Fox, and Disney Afternoon which was syndicated. Between the two, the Fox shows were consistently funnier. When it came to action shows, Batman beat Gargoyles.
Ironically, nobody had the upper hand visually, because the best episodes of all of these shows tend to be animated by the same studio. You know the one. So it came down to the writing and tone. If you think Animaniacs is bad, try watching the Disney Afternoon shows from the same era.

I don't even know if I still like it. I liked it BACK THEN. That doesn't mean I will like it now. Let's wait and see I guess.
I think the main problem is that back then I was the school clown and I refused to grow up so I could relate a lot with the Warner Bros. but even I have changed and take that part away and I am not sure if the rest of the series is enough to make up for it.

On the other side it already happened that I ended up enjoying reboots I was sure I would hate, so who knows.

Being a kid is seeing the Warner Trio as characters you want to be best friends with

Being an adult is seeing why everyone around the Warner Trio was driven insane

Bonkers was no 10/10, but I loved Lucky as a kid and still do to this day. He just wants to do his job right and live a quiet life once he gets home from work, and the toons ruin his life.

why are this rabbit and skunk so damn cute?

She had her moments.

I really owe it to this scene, it helped me not flunk a test on the states and their capitals in middle school. Unfortunately this was before YouTube even existed so I couldn't just watch it over and over until I memorized it, but I still remembered quite a bit of it.
