You don't need good characters or intelligent writing. Apparently, all you need to is fill every line of dialogue with franchise trivia and references to much better past installments.
That stuff is like catnip for neckbeards.

Worked with Rick and Morty.
But user, writing about actual astronomy or significant or philosophical concepts is too hard and boring!!!! Why can't we just write the most menial tripe possible and just make it related to Star Trek and call it a day?
I honestly think the the problem is Star Trek just ran out of steam. It's been going on since the 60's and in TNG onward the average ST show would have something like 180 episodes with that ending until fairly recently with Enterprise and that lasted nearly 100.
It's done everything. You can try to do what says but how can a show that tackled every single philosophical, political and scientific even go at this point?
the best stories are with developed characters you are familiar with
s1 at least developed a bit and allowed you to get to know them for better or worse. See what s2 brings. Its biggest flaw was that it was rushed and only has 10 episodes
beggers cant be chosers with cartoons. its a different world. traditioanl tv is dying. and there are too many channels/ platforms that divides audiences, which means advertisers arent going to invest as much
Remember, there was a day when you only had a few channels to chose from, any everyone in America watched those few channels, bigger audience means more investment
>waaaaa muh cal arts/ art school
lets see you do better faggot
Actually that is Tim Buckley
THIS is Cal-Arts
They didn't even do that
It's just Rick and Morty with shipping
So should I not watch this?
(The cat looked interesting.)
The cat has maybe a minute of screentime in the entire season
It's incredibly bland and mediocre, and pretty dumb for a Star Trek show
yes, that's the basic of what you need to appeal to fans. It begs the question of how the hell they fucked up PIC and STD
>exposing yourself this hard
exposed as what
I didn't understand it, but I liked it.
I appreciate you're a fan of the series, maybe? But I'm a complete newb to Star Trek and thought the show was alright on it's own merits. I'm not a big fan of Mariner, but the jokes landed more often than not for me, and when they reference previous ST lore I just tilt my head and wonder if I'm missing something. Like the guy with the fancy black ship, is he supposed to be one of the past MCs? Is he just a badass? I don't know, but I enjoy his character.
Hoes mad, LowerD is above average ST fare
Life long Trek fan, loved this series. First New Trek series I've actually enjoyed.
Children.
He's a sexual predator.
Nice dubs. Why'd you like it when you didn't the others?
same.
Well he is not involved in Lower Decks so why post his work to begin with
>ZOMG it kind of looks like his work
Except the neckbeards hate it and the only place I ever see talk about this remotely fondly is this shit hole because of dead brained waifu fags. Trek fans HAAAAAAAAAAATE this shit.
Im not really a trek fan, i've not watched any of the past series but I did sit through all of this shows season.
it was pretty mediocre at best. every chance it had to be real, reflect on emotions, give the characters an opportunity to be more than the gag that they are.. they squandered it and choked it up with a quick shitty joke.
the writing was hot shit on stale bread. I wanted to like it, but it wasnt even funny most of the time either.
I think most of the anger comes from what it's not rather then what it is.
Classic Star Trek is dead and it's corpse is now used to fulfill in being a generic space action laser franchise where the only things that matters is stuff going pew pew at the end.
Lower Decks was made to be a small comedy spin-off meant to take the piss over the long lasting franchise. They're angry it's not a suitable expansion or continuation to the franchise but it was never meant to be either of those things unlike Discovery or Picard.
The first few episodes are VERY rough but it shapes up quickly and the fact that it doesn't need to deal with a live action tv budget means it gets damn pretty damn fast when it gets to the action.
As an aside, green girl is the best.
There really isn’t any good ST beyond Wrath of Kahn.
IMDB for actual seroes credit
interesting there is a mention of 22 episodes in 2020, that cant be right
Because it looks like Star Trek. The show is set just after ST Nemesis, so it would make sense the show would have TNG-VOY era aesthetics. You have no idea how important LOOKING like Star Trek is when it comes to what fans expect of Star Trek. Seeing all these hard light holographic displays straight out of Avengers or Star Wars in Discovery really annoyed the hell out of a lot of long time fans.
Case in point; the displays on the consoles are LCARS displays, the aesthetic for the consoles that originates during the TNG era and used all the way up until Nemesis. The uniforms are based off the unused uniforms from ST Generations.
The jokes they address are stuff that would make sense with all my years of watching Star Trek. Example, that scene with Boimler crying about how he's going to quit Starfleet so he can be on some remote research station and die by some weird circumstances that will end up effecting the people who read his journal?
That's a buncha episodes of ST, and something someone whose seen a bunch of ST would understand.
ST characters fucking holodeck characters is something that heavily implied in DS9 and teased in TNG and VOY.
In LD, Commander Ransom outright says it. I mean, seriously how would someone not use the holodeck to fuck Dark Magician Girl or whatever? The folks writing LD know Star Trek at least beyond surface level meme pictures.
>every night she plots on ways to get back at him
>every morning she plans her sweet revenge
>every day ,week, months she savors her incoming victory
>she will make him regret the day he left....she will pleasure herself on the look of terror his face will have when shes standing in front of her....
>she will get what she wants ...she always has....
I absolutely accept it as a continuation of Star Trek over Discovery and Picard. Discovery is a mess written by people who want Star Trek to be Star Wars, and Picard is written by people who know Star Trek by osmosis.
