Really, who thought this would be a good design/idea?

I like the idea of Joker as a modern gangster, what put me off were his mannerisms, he just wasn't menacing for me. The fact that they cut the scenes where he abuses Harley didn't help.
Adding to this, an example would be the scene where he talks to that black gangster, he just came across as weird not funny or creepy.
I mean, the concept is decent, it's just they took it too far with distracting details like the "Damaged" tattoo or the simple fact that aside from having costumed goons this Joker didn't really try to pull anything Joker-ish
The same person who thought him snarling and saying "Hunka Hunka" was good writing.
Director
I don't think the idea was to make him a modern gangster, I think they were going for a social media attention whore thing. Like Logan Paul as a murderous criminal instead of just a vapid cunt.
Clearly it didn't work out because the writer for suicide squad sucked
I can see that being a line improvised by Leto, honestly
Would have been fine without the tattoos. especially the stupid one on his hand for him to put over his face when he laughs.
That’s was early in the movie and after that scene I knew I hated him. What a fucking stupid scene.
Improvised or not, they could've taken it out lmao
Wait what? Does he really say this?
Yeah in the scene where he's threatening a random "hunka" gangster by disingenuously telling him to bang Harley because he's a crazy fellow of some sorts
You have to pay for my chemo after getting this for you
Perhaps the thinking was boys aged 12 to 16 will find him cool without considering what anyone older would think.
JESUS Christ. The saying is awful but the way he said it is so much worse.
People who look in the mirror and think they can pass.
Pass what?

FUCK MY GIRLFIREND OR I WILL GO CRAZY!
Gas.
A modern, gangsta thug joker could work, but it needed one hell of a script and performance to pull it off and Leto and the writing didn't cut it.
People thought Ledger Joker looked retarded and like a heroin hobo before seeing TDK, but it worked with the performance and story.
Morrison did
I think if they went full ham with the aesthetic and made Die Antwoord plays the Joker for Halloween it would be interesting:
Leto tried to stop Joker 2019 from being made, he didnt even have faith in his own performance and character lmao
I want everything in Batman to be old timey, like Gotham is perpetually stuck in the 1940s, at a least in terms of aesthetics.
I agree with this. Since the comic "Joker", I kinda wanted to see this type of Joker, but being just some thug takes away much of his character.
He fit in that movie and I liked how colorful and shiny everything was (hell, even my mom in her late 60s accidently watched the Suicide Squad trailer on TV and unironically liked the design and costumes, which ended up being a huge lie). But how he was used, and acted, and his whole role as a whiny jealous ex ruined the character.
>modern gangster
This is Juggalo wannabe. Modern gangster is either a businessman or a paramilitary.
I don't mind the design except for the tats. Honestly, I kinda dug that Joker too. He wasn't some horror character or genius agent of chaos.
Leto's a good actor but dude is too pretty. Take Joaquin or Ledger, they look insane without clown make up. His design also strikes you like he's trying too hard to fit in, I mean "damaged" is something you'd expect from an edgy 15 yo tennager.
Add Harley, and this Joker was made to appeal girls. Overall he has the same issues as Luthor, bad casting and an awful take.
I think he was teaching him a lesson for perving on his girlfriend.
I like the design but, like all the characters on that movie, he got fucked over.
We actually see him act like THE joker in the prequel comic. I wish they had written him like that in the movie too.
