Connie had that episode where she was willing to become his servant because Pearl is a terrible role model and once they mutually got over that they've had a fairly stable relationship where she's accepted all the metric tons of baggage that comes with Steven just existing but is also her own person who is still going out of her way to do her own lame earth shit (which while boring as fuck is also respectable). Grant you she's the only non gem character who remotely wants his dick but she's still the only character who would have flat out told Steven how absolutely insane Steven's forever fusion thing was. There's no gem character who isn't a complete fucking pushover and unhealthy loyal to Steven bar his collective mother figures.

On Steven's end he genuinely cares about her in a way he doesn't for anyone else and he's worked to channel those feelings as best he could despite working from an incredibly unhealthy upbringing. Yes he's a little creep at times and even after a lot of personal growth he still thought fusing forever was anything other than retarded but he's trying.

I don't give a FUCK about Connie and think she's boring as shit but I don't think you can really paint their relationship as unhealthy when you compared it to literally every other one in the show that isn't just two generic human parents.
