Nah. There are clear homages (mostly to King of Comedy rather than Taxi Driver) but it is its own film. Redditors like to parrot the idea that it's identical to Taxi Driver because they think it makes them seem cultured. I first watched Taxi Driver when I was eleven, I'm under no illusions about either film.

I disagree. I think the movie that broke the mould and showed comic book movies can be mature should've had more to do with comic books, it should follow the story of one and, preferably, adopt its aesthetics where appropriate. Joker is just a movie about another movie that's good. Everything it does, Taxi Driver does better.
It's basically what Disney does with live-action remakes of their 40's cartoons, but marketed to Zig Forums.
