So why did Star's parents choose to enroll her (i.e. bribe the principal) in some random-ass public school in California? What even was their connection to that area? Did they not know of literally anywhere else on Earth to send Star? It doesn't make any sense.

i had a theory that the ministry of magic manipulated the events to send star at this school because marco was a descendant of the legit butterfly bloodline and him marrying her would make them legit again(somehow).

I have no idea what that user is speaking about, there was never any reason why they picked there. Perhaps he's saying it's because it turns out in that general area is a well of magic which connects to the Realm of Magic and how humans got to Mewman originally. But we were never told that had anything to do with this decision to leave Star there it's doubtful Moon would know about it unless Glossaryck was the one who chose the area which was never implied.
