Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better

>Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.
>It's not.
Almost 50 years later, was he right?

Nothing is getting better so yeah I guess

Yea. Currently environmentalists don't care. They just want to make money. They won't promote smaller gradual improvements because they can't make money from that.

We're planting way more trees now so we can cut down way more trees without deforesting the planet. There's a lot of burning, but it's not unprecedented and is mostly because of bad fire management. Also, lots of pollution but that's a third world industrial/globalization issue and is fixed diplomatically/economically not necessarily through less consumption. There's not going to be less unregulated factories because first worlders are being more self-conscious about buying local in their own countries.

If anyone actually gave a damn they would take note on the inhuman amount of PLASTIC choking the Earth's environment every year

But no, advocacy for climate change doesn't give two shits

Ozone layer nigga

We did something about the ozone layer. For a while. But (and I know they get blamed a lot for shit but it's true) China found a loophole and has started using CFC's again. And surprising to no one, it's starting to cause thinning again.

It's bitches like you that are making restaurants give me shitty paper straws.

I really like this version of the story. I wish the Illumination movie tried to pull from it.

Fuck the Earth

Who here's team "Earth is a lost cause and we should expend more effort trying to leave it?"

I think we should go down with the ship

>tfw Earth missed a golden opportunity with nuclear power because of idiots thinking it might explode like a bomb.

Chernobyl didn't help matters.

I'm team "humanity deserves to go extinct and they are well on their way to doing it".

Also lol there is no leaving the earth you fool. We couldn't terraform mars even if we wanted to. We simply don't have the tech, resources, or time. If we couldn't even salvage a perfectly habitable planet that we are already living on what makes you think we can make any non-earth planet habitable?

In 6,000+ years of civilization the majority of humanity has learned nothing. Only to consume at an ever quicker pace, and someday there won't be anything left to consume.

>tfw even bigger idiots don't realize that there is only enough nuclear fuel to replace oil for 10 years.
>tfw idiots don't take into account that building a nuclear power plant is a net time and energy invested loss
>tfw idiots don't understand that nuclear power needs batteries to be stored in because unlike liquid fuel it can't simply be put in a container and burned in a small engine

t. Malthus

It should be: Unless there large scale vested economic interest in improvement nothing is going to get better.

The only viable solution is the sterilization of all human species and force communism over the planet. Reproduction only after the candidates pass several tests that can be taken till the 25 years. After that only adoption is available.

That is the only way I can honestly see the species and the planet not going full mad max in a couple of centuries.

>using a straw
low test

>>tfw even bigger idiots don't realize that there is only enough nuclear fuel to replace oil for 10 years.
Sounds bs. There's several trillion tons of uranium on earth and only like a gram is needed to power a house for decades.
>>tfw idiots don't take into account that building a nuclear power plant is a net time and energy invested loss
>>tfw idiots don't understand that nuclear power needs batteries to be stored in because unlike liquid fuel it can't simply be put in a container and burned in a small engine
Nigga the main point of nuclear power plant is to produce electricity (mostly) cleanly.

The fuck are you talking about that it'll only replace oil for 10 years. Try over 200 years with the current rate of nuclear power plants, more if we continue to advance the tech.

I do are a whole awful lot. I want climate change to accelerate so that we'll have post-apocalyptic stateless communism by the end of the decade.
Based China.

>muh space
It's a pipe dream.

the most environmentally friendly form of energy is nuclear but most environmentalists freak out when you mention it. furthermore, almost all big wildlife conservation and most people who took the first big steps to save endangered wild life were big game hunters.

Most Environmentalists don't give two shits about nature and the most they've ever seen of a wild animal outside of a zoo. so no, I dont think we've learned our lesson, we just shifted it like we always do because people are retarded and shitty and only care about things on a surface level.

>THIS ISN'T WHAT I MEANT

Once we become a space-faring species, it'll be too late.

No, it's the elites and fossil fuel mongers taking advantage of the activist nature of the left and tricking all of them into thinking that it's up to them to make the changes, as if anything we do really makes a difference.

I'd argue a decade is ridiculous but it does constantly feel like we're on the brink, doesn't it? I've heard that we're in 'unprecedented times' since as far back as I can remember. And after a REAL unprecedented polar vortex Winter of -20F in goddamn Illinois just a couple years ago... Yeah, I wonder what things will be like 10 years from now.

>No, user, you don't understand, you HAVE to vote for Biden or it's OVER!
>I don't know, user, Bill Gates seems like a decent billionaire. He rides in a private jet everywhere? I don't know that it matters...
The rich have dumbasses completely fooled and every time I think they're on the edge of understanding, everything snaps back to normal again. I'm so tired of it. I hate being stuck in this hell period of human existence but I'm complete accelerationist at this point, hoping we somehow get to the point where we loop back around to the French Revolution.

>Wow! The jungles on Mars look just like the jungles on Earth!
>Jungles? On Earth? (laughter)

Honestly I just hate humanity lol and I'm too jaded to believe positive change can happen

You have one option

Is it any surprise rich hold such contempt for us?

More like because of cheapskate and shitty safety precautions put into place causing us to basically have entire arces of land and city become uninhabitable.
