Other than the art style they're absolutely right. The original had that great solid drawing Nine Old Men art style but shitty animation. The new incarnation has that Disney Flash art style and decent (but not particularly good) Flash animation. As for writing, the new show is definitely better even if it's overtly SJW.
So yeah, go watch the original and realize that it sucks other than the art style.

Well, it’s also the story editor and a storyboard artist getting really close to a teenaged fan and contributed to their “LGBT+ FanZine” for charity - which said teen fan ended up pocketing the funds. The storyboard artist even dated the teen at one point, inviting her to 21+ drinking events.
Suffice to say, the writers and crew members of the show are, uh, a little screwey.
