Judge Dredd: Opinions and Discussion Thread
Hes a cool character I love and hate at the same time.
I love him when hes all about justice and fighting corruption, but I hate him when hes hassling the average joe just trying to live his life in the Hellhole of the Megacity.
>"You witnessed a crime but dont remember much about it huh? 20 years in the cubes ought to jog that memory of yours, scum."
But hes supposed to be satire on a real police state, and thats all part of the "joke". Theres alot of really great Dredd stories.
I feel like him being a cunt is part of his character. He's not a good guy by any means.
He is alright. I like him better when Wagner writes him.
>favourite stories/arcs?
Judge Death, Judge Death Lives, Apocalypse War, America, Day of Chaos, Guatemala.
>favourite rogue/side character?
Judge Hershey and Judge Anderson. Totally qts.
>He's not a good guy by any means.
He's saved the city countless times, creep.
I DONT GET IT
i went camping on an island of the coast of england in my fathers freinds cottage and her msut have had over 1000 issues on his shelfs
i sat and read like 50 and i was so confused by it all
how do you even read jsut dredd without the other stuff is there a way to do that without collected editions ?
What do you mean? Dredd doesn't really have that much continuity. Everything that previously happens is sometimes called back on but there's very few large story arks that would leave you confused if you started them midway through.
>without the other stuff
You mean the other series from 2000AD?
Just pirate the case files and start from the top.
I feel like those kinds of stories kinda miss the point. They make him too much of a generic action hero. I prefer him when he's doing actual cop work.
yeye i kind of liked one story i read about zenthyr? or something like that anyways
but the image OP posted is IDW is there a simple way to just get into dredd without trawling through old 2000ad books and collected editions form the past 30 years?
>>favourite rogue/side character?
DIRTY FRANK
Just get a collected edition of one ot the more famous, mostly stand-alone stories, like The Pit, Apocalypse War or The Cursed Earth Saga. That outta give you enough of a taste to decide if you want more.
user, it's pulp sci-fi. I'm not sure what kinda cuckshit they're doing with him these days, but it's always been
>Someone commits some futuristic crime/disaster/whatever
>Judge Dredd takes the case
>saves the day in some ironic manner
>ends with a shitty quip
You're certifiably retarderd if you don't think Dredd has one of the strongest and most consistent continuties in comics.
youre a star thanks user x
>zenthyr
Yes. These are the stories I like the most.
I started getting into Dredd last year and I'm still at case file 13 so I wouldn't know how more contemporary Dredd is.
Rob Williams is a fucking hack. Why did he bring back Hershey? Her death by Wagner and MacNeil was KINO and a few months later lol she faked her death. Bullshit.
Get the Complete Case files. Its Dredd in chronological order.
Oh my bad, just get some solo tpbs of his most famous strips like America, Mechanismo, Days of Chaos, etc. If you like those check the Case files which is chronolical Dredd. Also I suggest start from case file 5 since it has The Apocalypse War.
I like both crazy sci fi and police procedural Dredd. IDW Dredd is crap and you deserve cube time for using it as the OP image, though.
Definite agree.
The only IDW decent one was that Anderson comic.
>shitty quip
Shitty my ass, some of the Daily Dredds never fail to make me giggle no matter how many times I've read them.
>everyone from Lowlife is dead now
they did my man dirty
F
Also, you may try to hunt down the old Eagle Comic series that reprints some of the best and most important early Dredd stories in a colorized, standard american comic book format. It was my entry point to the Dreddverse and I never looked back.
And If you don't want to hunt just head over to readcomicsonline . to and search for Dredd 1983
FUCK Rob Williams. He just brought back Frank in the pages of the Hershey spin-off. He ain't dirty now tho.
Are you kidding me? Camon user.
Nah, I didn't even realize it until Judge user pointed it out for me, because it was a subtle and gradual reveal
I have yet to read the latest prog or two so I hope to Grud you're pulling my leg here.
Fucking this. I hate the "dredd is purely political commentary" meme. Its pulp scifi that can cover any topic the writer of the week wants. To say its purely one thing or the other is stripping out what makes dredd, dredd
It happened during the summer, creep
Has Big J's heart broken in two yet at the Nerve Centre's gradual and final transformation into an Americanized comic where no one's ever really gone? Zig Forums never has Dredd thredds anymore so I don't get to ask our local Ciudad Barranquilla comic slug smuggler about upcoming prog happenings or references to old stuff I missed.
I completely missed it, then. Maybe my eyes were glazed over. Am I retarded?
