Why do people hate the “boy and girl best friends get together” trope?

I would say because it's predictable when it's about the 2 main characters.
But if you do it well you can make it work good, SVTFOE did “boy and girl best friends get together” well
Sam Manson poisoned the well
>SVTFOE did “boy and girl best friends get together” well
It fucking didn't
Weirdly enough them not getting together only makes the ship bait stronger.... is this how fujoshis feel?....
Strange as some feel more sympathy to the childhood friend when it comes to anime.
Why is that?
Because they have no friends
Because romantic arcs are fucking horrible and leads to the worst fandoms of "shippers"
>SVTFOE did “boy and girl best friends get together” well
better than "main boy is pushed to date the supporting female character" trope. That is garbage.
Because it reinforces the falsehood that platonic relationship between men and women don't exist. Also, a bit of this and this .
Then why are people praising this? It's literally the same thing but with same sex
Lesbians.
Sure most lesbian couples tend to be abusive, but lesbians.
Not a fan of it personally, but I think in this case it was seen as fine because they've been portrayed as a couple before, so it's inevitable, like Peter and Gwen in Spectacular Spider-Man. Also, it happening with adults and being lesbians make it less cliche, I suppose.
I don't mind if it's done well but most of the time the romance is there just because "well it's a guy and a girl so..."
Lesbian relationships are uncommon in fiction
>I don't watch cartoons so why do people hate X
choke on a dick OP
In spite of what the kvetching valfags might tell you, most fans of that show supported the canon pairing.
So you're telling me i can make the most generic shit but if i put someone from a minor group in it, it's immediately a unique show?
>SVTFOE did “boy and girl best friends get together” well
You're on crack. Star Vs. crammed in a neverending subplot of unrequited love and cuckoldry. And then they added lesbians for good measure.
>they've been portrayed as a couple before
Only in altertate universe comic books. No one reads comic books.
They don't always have to be a couple
Too close to reality I assume, you can't really be friends with who you're attracted to because one party or both is likely to fall for the other at which point it ceases being a friendship.
Don’t move the goalpost. It still counts.
svtfoe is actually the perfect example of why I don't like a lot of leading pairs getting together. it felt like they had a whole arc about growing as friends, then they flipped a switch to romantic tension and kissed and thats it. legit i would've rather marco and star got with anyone else it felt so unearned
>SVTFOE did “boy and girl best friends get together” well
>Singlehandedly makes everyone hate the trope
its predictable and usually isn’t done well about 90% of the time.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Don't let some random anons make you think best friend couples aren't popular. It's all about close they are and what their chemistry is.
Doesn't matter if they have good chemistry, people just don't like it because it's “cliché” or “predictable”
Example: people hate the five x miko but a lot of people are into the idea of five and zahra hooking up even though they had less meaningful interactions with each other than the last one
