It establishes early on Nigma's antihero potential, and frankly he was always FAR more interesting as the rival PI.
I like this take, if true. Makes Riddler more interesting than writers usually do.

It will depend on how they spin it. Hard to see the Riddler caring about corruption, or black people, so if they make that the focus of his character it will be pretty stupid. If he thinks he knows better than the cops and sees the department as generically weak and stupid (and corrupt), that could be good. The Riddler is a fundamentally selfish and egocentric character, not a do-gooder.
