Don Bluth failed because he's too genuine and nice of a person. He's not cruel and cynical enough to make it in Hollywood long term, and was unwilling to cut any corners.

>and was unwilling to cut any corners.

He certainly gave that up after the '80s. Have you seen the shit he made in the '90s? He cut corners.

I like Don Bluth as a person, but I can't say I like the artstyle much.

It also paved the way for the godforsaken bootleg Gisnep / Don Bluth western furry artstyle that looks vomit inducing.

>Have you seen the shit he made in the '90s? He cut corners.
Just because you don't like it (for the record, I don't particularly either) doesn't mean the animation was bad. See: Anastasia/Titan AE. The Pebble and the Penguin was the only movie with his name on it that looked bad, and iirc it was also the only one that was outsourced to a foreign studio. It's also in his words, the worst film of his career.

Is there anything that sets it apart from pre-Xerox Disney for you? If you're a person who likes the classic Disney films, I struggle to see what could be so off putting about Bluth.

I said artstyle, not animation style. It isn't displeasing, but it spawned a whole new kind of awful with the furry fandom with it that bastardized it.

>Hollywood requires you to be a piece of shit to succeed
>Don was nice so he tailed
Wow guess he should've raped more children

Then your gripe is with furries, isn't it? I rather like the art style, I guess my exposure to them is small enough it hasn't been ruined for me.

Don Bluth failed because he's a bad storyteller. His stories are cheesy as hell. That was fine in the 1980s, the cheesiest decade, but it didn't fly in the 1990s and later.

>His stories are cheesy as hell
There is literally nothing wrong with being "cheesy". Not every story needs to be some pretentious grim dark drama full of "anti-heroes".

We need cheese back

I'll take "False Dichotomies" for $800, Alex.

I think before this conversation progresses, you should define what you mean by cheesy.

I wonder what its like to watching Land Before Time get raped the way it did.

All of the Land Before Time sequels pale in comparison to pic related. I can say in full confidence that even though it's barely over an hour long, it is the worst experience I have ever had watching an animated film.

What really bothered me is they didn't explain what happened the the Great Owl

He also had guys like Lucas/Spielberg when they were at the top of their craft guiding his hand in productions such as Land Before Time.

Animation wasn't the problem: It was the stories. Bluth's work went from emotional and interesting classics like All Dogs Go to Heaven and an American Tail, to mindless kiddie entertainers like Troll in Central Park and Rock-a-doodle.
Both of the 90s films I listed are still great pieces of animation. But both are apparent examples are Bluth sacrificing his ideas for what he though would just get people to sit in theaters or buy the video release. Too many of his effort films underperformed financially, so in order to save his company, he took the easy route.

What will drop first

-New Bluth

vote now.

Unfortunately that was the only shit anyone wanted to fund, and he needed to pay his employees.

This was filmed during/after the release of An American Tail, and he said he can't fully make the films he really wants to because he has to keep "what will sell" in the back of his mind. So I guess in a way, he did sell out. But it wasn't out of greed, it was out of desperation. The Secret of NIMH is the pinnacle of his career, he wanted to make more movies like that.

So he needed a ruthless right hand man or agent that would get him the opportunities he deserved without forcing him to compromise his ideals or work ethic.

>CGI TSoN
Only a matter of time. We all know MGM has expressed interest in doing so, and they're obviously not above shitting on something great to make a quick buck.
>New Bluth
Never going to happen. Unless I win the mega millions lottery and fund his Dragon's Lair movie out of pocket (which I absolutely would).

Bluth announced he was going to do new stuff last month.

He’s famously not a nice person and was a total dick to a lot of people. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Well after the Kickstarter totally failed and he didn’t deliver on anything he promised why wouldn’t anyone believe him!?

I thought he was a hardcore niceguy Christian desu. I can't imagine him being being an asshole.

Talking about this?

Ah yes, the infamous car crash in slow motion

When his studio was in Dublin he was "infamous" for not coddling ungrateful pricks in his studio, but they were always welcome if they were willing to grow up.

He literally started his company by stealing half of the animation team he worked for and ruined a lot of people’s lives and jobs in the process. Then he went on to treat his workers like shit and tank a ton of projects both his and others’. He was a slave driver and only thought men could animate. Literally read anything ever before posting you imbecile.

If you're going to attack someone's character, you should have some evidence to back up your claims.

NIMH 2 legitimately hurts to experience.
Like, I've never felt physical pain watching a movie before NIMH 2

That’s how he painted treating his workers who asked for literally anything like shit. He hates unions and wanted to keep people in their place.

>by stealing half of the animation team he worked for
They voluntarily left Disney with him because they agreed with him. Saying he "stole" them is absurd, they were all adults with free agency to do as they pleased. And they decided it was best for them to leave Disney and go work for Don instead.

Read literally any book about animation and not just wiki pages you fucking retard. Start with Leonard Maltin’s
