So what’d you think of it?

No thanks
It at least had one very good (and as usual, far too brief) 2D scene, as well as some 2D effects sprinkled here and there.
I was surprised to finally figure out that the annoying glowing green dog was actually an annoying glowing green pangolin.
Mommy/10
I am certain this character design was a purposeful subtle reference to The Little Prince, and I love that.
Also neat that they worked in the scarf and the hair as serving a narrative purpose.
Looks Chinese as fuck, is it good?
It’s surprisingly good, despite how very Chinese it is.
it's chinese as fuck
According to the previous threads: absolutely nothing. It's not bad enough to be offensive and not good enough to be interesting.
its Up but chinese and a ripoff
Also I feel like a lot of the Moon Goddess’s character was inspired by The Rose.
I was about to disagree. But then I thought about it for a minute, and you’re right, there are a lot of parallels.
I still wouldn’t call it a ripoff.
Should probably post a gif
I liked her in terms of visuals. Very exaggerated.
I was torn between wanting to see her do more costume changes, and wanting each of her outfits to have more screentime.
So, was it a dream all along, or did it literally happen?
she should have put Feifei in a costume
For a moment, I kinda thought it might turn out that she would want to fuck the little boy, since he was descended from the dead boyfriend’s lineage.
I expected something like this to come up. Like Hou Yi's ghost popping out of the boy or him being the "gift". Shame they didn't go with that but I guess Chang'E doesn't deserve a true good ending.
nice visuals and a good message and both of the Goddesses' songs were wonderful
i was waiting for the rabbit to talk but it never happened and that surprised me.
They were very clearly going for a message about getting over the death of a loved one, and truly reuniting Chang’e and Houyi would’ve fucked that up.
I appreciated that.
I do think that shoving in a romance between the two rabbit sidekicks was unnecessary, but at least they really committed to keeping them both mute. I also like how Chang’e and Jade Rabbit were the only moon denizens who didn’t glow, presumably because they’re the only two not born of Chang’e’s tears. I kinda wonder what the story behind Jade Rabbit and his relationship with Chang’e is.
He's the moon hare and Chang'E is just squatting at his place.
And I just know that if this were made in the US, twitter would be shouting about how incredibly racist the entire animation team is for making her look "too stereotypically" asian.
She should’ve dressed up Chin in a costume, too. And Bungee. And, yknow what? Fei fei’s aunts were hot, they should have costumes too. Everyone should get costumes.
When I saw the photo burn up in the atmosphere, that kind of confirmed to me that none of it was real, and it was most likely Feifei having a dream to process her problems. I don’t mind that they don’t have a scene of her waking up though, because I feel like it’s a valid artistic choice to leave that point up for interpretation. Too many people get ass blasted by “it was all a dream” plots on principle, I get why you’d keep it open.
I don’t even think Feifei and Chin conked their heads from crashing the rocket. I think the dream starts all the way back when Feifei lays down on her bed under the scarf and gets the idea to build the rocket. From there, I felt like the whole film takes a hard turn. It’s the best way for me to justify her getting so attached to the contrived reasoning of “if my dad sees the moon goddess is real, he won’t remarry.” And the way she could just buy a truckload of rocket building parts on her dad’s card with him barely noticing. And how she could just walk out of class singing, with her apparently strict teacher just staring at her. And how she could even build a working rocket to begin with. Also I thought some of the moon stuff was really on the nose, the way Gobi was kind of insisting that he was serving as a stand-in for Feifei bonding with and learning to accept Chin.
But then, I guess even before and after the points where I say the dream happened, things were already kinda cartoony. Like the entire bakery breaking into song, or the bunny and frog being basically sapient. So that fucks it up a little. Kinda reminds me about how I feel about the sapient flying squirrel in Little Nemo.
Maybe the movie could use a little controversy like that, just to get people talking about it at all.
White people should only make movies featuring white people. Problem solved.
are moon cakes good?
the movie makes a big deal about them so they must be right?
And yet, Glen Keane was director for this movie
