Do you think American Dad is good? I see people saying that it's better than Family Guy, but I'm not sure whether that's a 'best of the worst' situation or if it's actually good. Mind you, I haven't watched it in years, so I'm in no position to judge.

No, they don't do that.

Cry harder.

Currently Family Guy is better. Family Guy started doing some great stuff about two years ago when the showrunner changed. Every episode isn't good but you'll have a good time most of the time.

It started out bad, but it became great. by far the best mcfarlane show
uhh no, obama-era FG was better, it's currently shit. and since they did the racist recasting of characters based on race, only a moron would still be watching.

I like it. The newer seasons have gone in a weirder direction and some episodes are a hit or miss. But even the newer seasons have a couple of episodes I like. Such as from the previous season Rabbit Ears which was a very Twilight Zone inspired episode. Which was actually really good. It's one of go to shuffle shows. I have a Plex server with a dedicated to cartoon section. And American Dad actualy winds up being one of the shows I re-watch the most. Not because I am the biggest fan it's just such a great background show to have while doing chores or other things.

Started off mediocre but easily became the best of the McFarlane-verse in later season s

No. It's closer to good than Family Guy, but still very far away.

Can you imagine if it got out that the black VAs were making less than the ones they replaced for the same role?

Nu-Family Guy is total garbage, but it’s entertaining garbage. Characters and plots have been completely sidelined in favor of cramming more shitty jokes into a 22-minute period. Most of the time the entire first act of the episode has nothing or very little to do with the rest of it. But there’s still a few funny gags there.

yeah, it is fg and the Simpsons got really bad. In family guy, everyone is an unlikable asshole with almost no redeeming qualities and the Simpsons just went on for too long and have fucking Lisa in it the worst character of all time god I fucking hate Lisa

American Dad is more humor based on character circumstance while Family Guy treats its characters as vessels for humor. It gives more consistency and concreteness.

I miss the Sethverse being on Fox on the same night

american dad is great. tons of rewatchable episodes. the new seasons are pretty weird but it's been around forever so it happens.

start at season two.

I wish Family Guy has stayed in the direction in was going in Seasons 2-3 instead of going into a Simpsons style nose dive in quality after it was revived.

Never got the Lisa hate around here.

Haven't checked out most of the newer seasons, but the show is actually pretty good, the characters are all funny, it's not like FG where Peter is the only one with plotlines, there is also a tiny bit of continuity which is surprising. But it's incredibly easy to watch so if your interested start anywhere that's not the rough earlier episodes

The continuity for an adult cartoon is pretty tight. The except is the Hot Tub episode which was written to be a finale and got written off as a halloween special. There are no random eps where everyone dies at the end or the world is irrevocably damaged/changed forever.

The 300th episode actually wraps up the whole series by confirming the episode "Rapture's Delight" is still the finale.

>There are no random eps where everyone dies at the end or the world is irrevocably damaged/changed forever.
there were 2 in the last few seasons. one where stan and his family got stuck in an old tv listening to smooth jazz
and one where the earth was nuked but aliens recreated it on a ball of chinese ice cream so they could eat chinese ice cream

>one where the earth was nuked but aliens recreated it on a ball of chinese ice cream so they could eat chinese ice cream
That episode also had Overwatch, as in actual game footage

Like others have said, I don't know much about the newer episodes, but the second half of Season 1 on for at least 5-6 seasons was very good. No doubt some shittier episodes in there I'm forgetting, but there's a lot of good shit in there. People theorize endlessly about how the two shows ended up diverging so much, especially since American Dad is, on the face of it, the obviously more politically theme'd show. But American Dad simply ended up with a much stronger cast and setting to build off of. The entire family ended up being good for the show, even Hayley, as they focused more and more on all of them being fairly self adsorbed but not completely worthless human beings.

Strong comedic writing helped too. I'm not sure it ever ended up going for the really sentimental type things you see happen in other shows, your Jurassic Barks and so on, but that's not necessarily a quality it had to have. It was just an entertaining adult cartoon comedy. Not a must watch, I guess, but definitely more than worth it.

It varies a lot from episode to episode, and the season when they first switched over to TBS is pretty weak in my opinion. Otherwise though it's a pretty solid show generally.

I find it strange how Family Guy beat American Dad to the Trump gags when Bush and Republicans were all over early American Dad

>even Hayley

Hayley is underrated, she could have ended up like a Meg or Lisa but she's actually pretty enjoyable, especially since all the characters play off each other well

Writers changes at AD and they laid off the hard anti neo con politics.

To be fair, the Hayley moments that stand out in my mind are either heavily dependent on other characters, like the great "Rabbit/Duck Season" type gag where she tricks Roger into pretending to be her forging his own signature or things involving her boyfriend, but it's probably just a bias. A lot of great moments for most of the characters involved bouncing off each other. Hayley just gets hit harder with the bias because her archetype makes you think about Brian and his nonsense, but the show quickly swerved into her being just as shameless and immoral as the rest of them for good comedy.

Klaus is American Dad’s Meg. But he’s still hilarious at times.

I like Rogu and I like Tuttle

The Tbs seasons have their moments but it's definitely not as good as the fox seasons

I'd say it's split between him and Jeff, which gives both of them the opportunity to be on the "winning" side occasionally.
