It's real simple. The capital owning class (about 20% of the population) have mostly gradually shifted culturally leftward, and since people who own capital are the only people who matter in this system, the media reflect the opinions of these people and caters to them. It put's stuff like this and facebook and Hollywood into perspective. The cultural right-wingers are usually economically right-wing, but economic right-wing policies strengthens the capital owning class and thus now economic right-wing supports and propagates the cultural left.
So if the democrats win, the liberals win. If the Republicans win, the liberals win. Conservatives and the left both be damned. If you actually wanted to stop the leftwing control of media, you would have to support the economic left-wing policies to distribute more control of the means of production to the average person.
