What's your opinion of Miles Morales currently...

What's your opinion of Miles Morales currently? Years ago he pissed me off given the hard push he had as a Peter replacement, but these days he's kind of fallen into the "Kid Flash" sidekick role and I don't really mind him as much. Does anyone feel the same? I think the one nice thing about Miles is giving Peter that teacher/mentor angle that we've seen in the past (school teacher, X-Men teacher, etc) thus stressing the classic "responsibility" theme. I guess if there was anything I would change about Miles is giving him a cleaner origin if he's going to be a 616 mainstay, and fleshing out his own unique rogues gallery that isn't just a next-gen copy of Peter's.

What are your thoughts?

I kinda liked him living in a world where Peter was dead and he was the legacy character. The student/mentor angle works fine, I guess, but it's not as interesting.

Hes Bendis' Donut Steel nigger designed to rake in sales and appease Obama.

he used to be great in Ultimate universe, also he used to be half latino, half black.

i still think he's dumb because New Version of Iconic Superhero is always a hard sell and the electricity/invisibility is just so not Spider-Man-y reeks of fanfic OC. but i also really don't care and would be fine with stories involving him if it's not bad.

he's pointless, throw him in the trash with alpha

I actually like him but I've never been a huge spiderman guy in the first place.

He will always be in Peters shadow
If they want him to be his own hero and his own person have his family move from NYC and take on a new name or maybe become the Scarlet Spider

Whenever I hear a normie refer to Miles, I remember that Bendis' pathetic, racist attempt at pandeing succeeded, and all of you who contribute money to a product with Miles in it helped him do it. None of you who support Miles should ever speak ill of Bendis. Why? Because that would turn you into hypocrites. But youre all bottom of the barrel scum anyway, so just do what you want, I guess.

A mistake no one will admit. From day one he was a worse Peter and despite their "efforts" to make him likable, nothing has changed. He needs to be completely rebooted and perhaps even moved away from the spider persona certainly put into his own city/dimension at least, or just outright dropped. He brings nothing to the table as-is that other Spider's don't already do 10X better.

I like Silk but that doesn't mean I like Slott or support his bad habits. Her and Miles improved with other writers. I feel like you have issues dissociating characters from their original creators.
I'll get shit for this but I personally don't think Ben or Kaine really add anything either

Ben I agree with but Kaine is both the mystical side of Spider-Man, and the hardcore one (when he's allowed to be) so he has purpose, he's basically the original Superior Spider-Man just without the crap plot.

Eh I can't really get behind Kaine either. When I think "mystical" in terms of Spider-Man, I either think Madame Web or Peter teaming up with Doctor Strange like the old days.

As for Superior the idea was only decent under Chris Gage, when Otto had his own clone body hybrid and was off in California.

He's a character who has existed for well over a decade and no writer has ever taken any time to develop a personality beyond "generic do gooder kid". There is literally nothing unique or interesting about the character.

>can't get behind Kaine
>but thinks it was better done with Otto
You're right, you will get shit for such shit opinions.

Otto is the best alternate Spider, hands down

He was a shit, vacuous diversity character churned out by a hack writer who was salvaged by competent non-capeshit funnybook writers in movies, shows and vidya.

To me he represents the ultimate dichotomy between coming from nothing and being built up by superior contributions over time, kind of like Deadpool.

He also highlight how garbage cape comics writers are.

Not even getting a (you) for that one.

Slott Superior Spider-Man was trash, but the Gage solo book was great. It was a good character progression for Otto without all that body snatching autism. Not that it matters now, because it was all undone by Mephisto

Just. Make. Him. Prowler.

But that doesn't work either. Aaron Davis Prowler is one of the few villains he has, and even that's fucked because it requires everyone forgetting that Hobie Brown exists. I'm actually kind of salty about how much Brown has been ignored for so long. He was one of Peter's allies who's now MIA.

Replacing the original Spider-Man was never the right choice. It's better to do what Spider-verse did and make them essentially the equivalent of Power Rangers.

leaks already?

He never replaced the original Spider-Man, just the Ultimate version
That's RE3 with different character models, user

>I like Silk but that doesn't mean I like Slott or support his bad habits.
Of course you do. Slot has stupid levels of money in the bank thanks exactly to people like you who "don't support his bad habits."

>Her and Miles improved with other writers.
Silk simply became not-shit. That doesn't make her an interesting character, though. Miles did not improve one bit. He's still a blank slate outshined by his supporting cast after all these years. Sony continued the tradition with his movie and they'll do it again with his video game.

>I feel like you have issues dissociating characters from their original creators.
You should tell that to Disney. They're the ones that sign Bendis and Slott's royalty checks

>I mean hey, leaks se- oh... oooooooooooooooooooooh

I didn't pay a single penny towards Slott's books

I get you. But let’s be honest. Normies don’t care about prowler. I think a good idea its to make miles prowler and have Bruce Wayne badman beyond dynamic. That way you can have peter be Spider-Man and miles can be a character and have his bad guys

>who was salvaged by competent non-capeshit funnybook writers in movies, shows and vidya.
Can you elaborate on this, please? How was Miles salvaged?

Any time Silk sells, Slott sees the money. If you bought a Silk book, even if Slott didn't write it, he still benefits financially. You supported Slott in an indirect way.

>It's better to do what Spider-verse did and make them essentially the equivalent of Power Rangers.
There you go, thinking exactly like an out-of-touch executive at the office table. Dilute the brand by expanding the line to market to as many people as possible, while pleasing no one.

I'm paying for what Silk is now, encouraging better writing under better writers. I can't help royalty bullshit. He can't take credit for shit he didn't do.

a lot of my resentment of miles comes from marvel going "look, it's not like we're going to be replacing 616 peter, you've still got him" when miles was introduced, then a year later they replaced 616 peter with otto.

I don't expect any real answers to this but I'll try anyway.
Are there any Miles runs you'd recommend? I don't care if his original self is different but I'm mainly interested in movie Miles because he's adorable and full of personality.
However, even if it's not that good, are there any runs or any media in which he's likeable?
It's an honest question because I have no interest in the character and yet I really want more of the movie version because I love his portrayal
Maybe I've been wrong and his personality isn't just "black" and "teen", but that's what little I've seen of him in the page

Not him but I hope you're aware the brand, like every comic brand, was deluded before Miles hit the scene.
