Her mother isn't really a bad person. She's just tired and fed up with the bullshit she's had to deal with, which stands in contrast to Skyla's more naive and friendly nature.

I think the mother is a bad person, and I know the idea behind her character is the juxtaposition between her and her daughter, but I hope we get to see her having a more complex morality in the future. I don't even mean a redemption arc, or giving excuses as to why she acts like a shitty person, I just think it would be nice to see her have like a really good day and be a happier person for a time, to show that just because she's not good all the time, she's not evil incarnate.

She is too pure for this world.

well she did ask Skyla if the job involved cameras/a couch and if they made her feel uncomfortable, if she was evil incarnate she would prioritize the money she could get off her rather than her comfort

My assumption is that she was like Skyla once but eventually she did end up getting royalty screwed over unlike her daughter who comically turns a bad situation into a good one.

I wouldn't be surprised if something like the casting couch was the only thing Skyla's mom could find after Skyla's dad ran out on her and took the car. It would add some complexity to her character and explain why she's so bitter all the time.

I mean they literally show she was pretty happy while with Skyla's dad until the MS-13 piece of shit left her knocked up and stole her car.
