First episode where I've felt sorry for Lisa in a long time

She had a fight with Bart earlier in the episode, but toward the end she realized how much she needed him.

i know the simpsons will never fucking die, but sometimes i wish it could be soft rebooted with all of springfield still in the 90's

sometimes i look at new simpson episodes and basically every extra in the show is a modern person simpsonized it feels so fucking weird specially because americans are really fucking weird, my country just doesn't move as fast as the united states all the clothes, hairstyles and even some words people use feel really odd sometimes, meanwhile the simpson still look the same as always except they are in hd now and animated digitally

I saw an episode last night, it was garbage so I don't recommend anyone else sees it, where they went to Costa Rica, and there was a female Selma love interest side character introduced who was basically a female Homer, and it felt like such a breath of fresh air to have a character on the show who is actually kind of positive and "fun", and not just an eye-rolling cynic who's there to bring everyone down by making snide comments or just being negative all the time, which is what the rest of the cast has basically become. They weren't even a great character, but they just stood out from the sea of pessimistic garbage the rest of the show has become, and I haven't seen them since so they have probably just gone quietly into the night for the show.

bart has some weird hate boner for lisa's horse toys. it is revealed he has a long standing fear of horses, despite the time he was a jockey or that time fat tony asked him to use his voodoo powers to get his horse impregnated by a famous racehorse who turned out to be gay so they get another horse to fuck her while homer sings a song parodying one more day from les miserables
by the end of the episode lisa helps bart overcome his fear of horses in like 15 seconds and they escape together on horseback form the mansion of the mean girls the other user mentioned
the last 40 seconds of the episode is just some band the young people probably know performing the simpsons theme

The show's visuals lost all cohesion.
Brad Bird was in charge of the look of the show (based off of Groening's original concepts of course), and I think he left sometime around season 7 or 8. I don't think it's a coincidence that the visuals got increasingly stiff/sterile and the new characters didn't fit, after that.

Kind of a Dinner For Schmucks thing with Lisa as the schmuck. The girl who invited Lisa is super excited because now she's finally in with the snotty rich girls, and at the next sleepover Lisa can bring her own "Lisa" for them to mock and Lisa can be one of them too.

It's not as top-tier as Halloween of Horror, but it's definitely in the same "Lisa being written the way she's SUPPOSED to be written" category.
