I used to feel like "Goku Vs Superman" was an absurd notion until Dragon Ball Super came along, I'd say "They wouldn't have any reason to fight" but Goku in DBS just wants to fight stronger and stronger dudes for the fun of it and for that reason he'd want to pick a fight with Superman.
Whether Goku wins or loses, he'd use it as motivation to get stronger. Does Superman ever get stronger or is his power already maximum? Goku will just keep getting stronger and stronger until he can surpass Superman if he hasn't already.
