Director of Invader Zim made some independent commentaries for the show where he details his experiences and regrets from working with Jhonen and Nickelodeon. Found them recently and thought some anons would like them.

Bumping for later
Kinda sad to listen to these, to hear all the issues and shit the Director had to face
Feel bad for him
yknow i always suspected jhonen was a pain
knowing his previous work and seeing him now i dont doubt it was any different. ap production was pretty fun in places, but also very difficult in others because of the man
You absolutely can tell from his interviews during the era that he was problem. Nick let Invader Zim get away with shit that people to this day still can't believe made it onto the air, but any time Nick made a reasonable request he'd take it as a personal challenge to defy them. Like when they asked him not to include cameos from his comic characters and he turns around in an interview and goes "yeah, so then I went and did it anyway, but I was sneaky about it so they wouldn't notice until it was too late". Or the whole Bloody GIR fiasco. I've never had any doubt that he's the reason Nick treated the show so poorly.
bump
The channel have been uploading those videos for 10 years. Who manages this channel? The name doesn’t sounds like what a director would use. Where do they get those audio from? I don’t think the director have been talking about this for 10 years. Why are all videos cut in 3 parts? Nobody told him that you can have videos longer than 10 min for years?
Wasn't this guy #MeToo'd recently?
Steve Ressel is a big part of the reason Invader ZIM looked so good, but supposedly he got blacklisted when the show was cancelled because he was difficult to work with. He's also been accused of grooming underage girls.
It's a shame, because Enter the Florpus was a let down, visually.
These were uploaded on Ressel's defunct website back in the day.
the channel description says they got permission to re upload after the original videos got taken down (either by Steve himself or Nick).
>Strucci says that Ressel was obsessed with her Southern heritage, claiming that he often expressed bigoted opinions and drew her in Confederate uniforms. She also points out Ressel's contribution to the infamous 'Rugrats' storyboard jam, which included pornographic and incestuous depictions of the series' characters.
Based
That actually does sound awesome. But did Ressel draw that infamous page from the jam, the only one that survived?
Was an interesting watch, didn't know things had started to deteriorate behind the scenes near the end
At least bump with Irken porn.
Later eps like Mortos made it clear that they were not having fun anymore
bump
>Vasquez is apperently kind of a dick
>but Ressel is a pedo
>These were uploaded on Ressel's defunct website back in the day.
But why does it takes 10 years and still didn’t upload it all?
I wonder how much was his personality and how much was his lack of experience with animation.
Holy shit balls
I don't remember that episode; what about it makes it seem joyless?
It's just a dumb ep, even for IZ. Seems more like a Billy and Mandy ep
The plots have the family guy issue of ending abruptly without any sense of why
I think Vasquez have an eccentric trolish sense of humor and this doesn’t work well when a corporation wants to talk seriously. He constantly use creative offensive names for his fans and even himself but I don’t remember any story about him mistreating any fan but he does troll them like in picture.
Also artists trolling the execs seems to be a thing.
>The team created Hutchison after Joe Murray attended a press conference for networks to market new seasons of television shows to the press. A reporter asked Murray why the show did not have any "positive female role models." Murray responded by stating that he had no positive role models, that people do not use cartoon characters as role models, and that television shows should not teach lessons. After the conference, some Nickelodeon executives told the reporter that they had plans to place female role models in the show and asked Murray to place an unused character, Magdalane (Rocko’s narcoleptic sister), as a female role model. Murray refused to use Magdalane in that way because it went against his creative vision. Then, a female executive from Nickelodeon later requested Murray to create "a professional woman, someone with a good hook" and Murray started developing Hutch. The executive intended for the "good hook" to be a personality trait that attracts viewers; Murray instead gave Hutch a literal hook.
Indeed.
This was before the SJW infestation.
Plenty of Zim eps don't have a proper ending. Bolognius Maximus is another example
>he doesn't know about the PC wave of the 1990s
Depressing
I would take that PC bulshit over the bulshit we have now. They went from buying dolls of different races to demanding them.
>sjws literally demand a character the executives force them to put in
>hurr this was before sjws

About 2.3 years left. Think you can hold on?
Dib summons some guy to help him defeat Zim. Said guy is a big fat gross human-ish thing that keeps putting off helping Dib to do stupid shit then leaves.
One thing I should make clear is that there are more commentaries then for just this episode

Many, many moons ago (talking the days of RoomWithAMoose chatroom) his AIM handle was pretty much just 'out' there floating around the web.
I, at the time, was intent on pursuing a degree in graphic arts. I hit him up on a lark, he actually responded, sent me some cool art from the show and we chatted now and again. He single-handedly talked me out pursuing the career and the school I was looking at (Kuberts World of Graphic and Comic Art) - basically told me the 'writing on the wall' and the nightmare of PC bullshit that was coming.
Ten years later he was totally right.
No regrets! Thanks Mr. Ressel!
He wasn't wrong
