Obscure Foreign Cartoons

Are there any foreign animated movies that you like that Zig Forums rarely talks about? I watched the Tragedy of Man recently and was absolutely blown away so I'm looking for films of similar quality.

I didn’t make this image, nor have I seen most of the movies on it, but apparently I saved this at some point to remind me to check some of these out. I should really get around to that sometime.

>toyline sold like shit in the long term

god i've wanted to see big bad fox and gordon and patty for ages but theres no where to watch them
seder masochism and anomalisa are pretty shit

I know how you feel. I’ve been wanting to watch Hoffmaniada for what must be at least five years now.

It did?
I never catched up with it, was it so tragic?

The director Marcell Jankovics made other noteworthy stuff too like Johnny Corncob, a folkloric fantasy animated in the style of Yellow Submarine and Son of the White Mare, a surreal mythological folklore epic. Both of these just got a restored VOD release in the US, though the subtitles for White Mare are pretty weak.
He also made Song of the Miraculous Hind, this one is more of an educational movie about Siberian and Hungarian myths and medieval history. The animation style is somewhere between those of Tragedy of Man and White Mare.
Heroic Times is from the same studio, it's another highly obscure a very bleak folklore-based historical drama, animated with oil paintings. This is a tough one if you're unfamiliar with the source poem, since it was intended to have only a musical score and no voice acting, but the studio demanded the inclusion of a clunky narration.
Jankovics is making another adaptation of the same story as his final project, titled Toldi. It should be out this year but news has been scarce.
He's also made a 26 minute Biblical short about Genesis, which is what he originally set out to produce instead of the Tragedy of Man back in the 80s. But I haven't found this one yet, I think it's only available as a special bonus DVD for his illustrated Bible book.

Thanks. I'll be watching these over the holidays.

>why yes I am Polish, how could you tell?

This has been on Youtube for a while now.

Because Polish are the only people on God's Green Earth who can actually stand the Hungarians and their wacky cartoons?

I've seen most of the first episode last summer, while the animation is pretty good, it's very far from Jankovics' usual style. Also, the narrator who does ALL the voices is a pretty bad choice. (same guy who voiced Adam in Tragedy of Man)

I don’t know if this is Zig Forums but here it is anyway.

I wanted to watch it, when I watched the trailer to the incoming release in high definition around this year. But what happened to it? I read before it could release soon...but we are at November already.....

I've been meaning to get into Jankovics more. In addition to his movies he's also written/illustrated a bunch of books, most of them not seeming to have been translated save for pic related, which still looks pretty esoteric in its own right.

I didn't even know Gormiti had a cartoon, I remember really liking the toys. Some of them I used as keychains, wonder what became of them.

I think this is from Spain, saw it when I was 8 maybe.

I recently saw The King and the Mockingbird, that was good shit.

Also props to opening with the Tragedy of Man, that's my favorite movie of all time.

I made that image, should I do one that's for animation in general?

They're working on a digital release, apparently.

Also for OP, here's a playlist I found on Youtube that might have some interesting stuff in there. It's just a collection of a bunch of animated movie trailers but a lot of them are obscure foreign movies.
