Was the Futurama Revival really that bad? I always see people shit on it but I personally loved the revival.
Futurama Comedy Central
I thought the quality even back out after first cc season, but there were more duds than the og run. The last finale episode was the best one and thats what matters
I felt the revival's best episodes were better than the original run's best, but the revival's worst episodes were worse than the original run's worst.
I watched most of Futurama linearly on streaming sites after having seen bits and pieces back on satellite TV. I didn't notice a quality drop at all, and didn't know any of the details of the network switch until I saw it on here.
I think the problem might have grown bigger in the memory of experiencing it one episode at a time than it really is.
no it wasn't bad
The revival had the same problem every show gets when they get older, it tried to recreate Futurama instead of being Futurama. Which was super apparent when they tried recreating the ending from Jurassic Bark like three times. Also the new seasons have a bunch of episodes revolving around dated pop cultural bullshit that are complete stinkers.
The revival wasn't bad. It had some duds but it also had some extremely strong episodes. I'm glad it happened.
It was bad. The worst part is that they forced all the Planet Express staff together in every episode, we never got comfy Fry, Leela and Bender adventures aside from 2 episodes.
Anyway, the good episodes were:
>Lethal Inspection
>The Late Phillip J Fry
>The Prisoner of Benda
>Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences
>The Tip of the Zoidberg
>Cold Warriors
>Overclockwise
>Free Will Hunting
>Near Death Wish
>The Inhuman Torch
>Game of Tones
>Murder on the Planet Express
>Meanwhile
The rest, meh.
>No A Clockwork Origin
>No The Mutants Are Revolting
>No The Silence Of The Clamps
>No Law and Oracle
>No Ghost in the Machines
>No The Six Million Dollar Mon
>No Fun on a Bun
>Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences included instead
I don't remember much about the dated pop culture references in other episodes besides Attack of the Killer App and the Kardashian line, but Attack of the Killer App was indeed a shitshow.
Also the time they referenced one of their own memes was pretty bad
>A Clockwork Origin
Another unfunny ensemble episode. Makes a decent (if not outdated) point about evolution denial in the schooling system but honestly is pretty boring.
>The Mutants Are Revolting
Seriously meh.
>The Silence Of The Clamps
Okay ep, best joke is "Billy West, what kind of stupid made up name is that?"
>Law and Oracle
Seriously shit. Just a dumb movie parody filled with Reddit humor.
>Ghost in the Machines
Decent enough.
>The Six Million Dollar Mon
Absolutely shit episode, no idea why you'd think it was good.
>Fun on a Bun
Was a big tired fuck you to fans of Fry and Leela's relationship.
Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences is fucking funny, that's why I included it.
I watched every episode and loved them all.
They had an episode about Leela and Fry's future kid getting stuck in the past planmed ever since the OG run but never got around to making it because they didn't know where to fit in, but I always thought that would have been interesting and had the potential to flesh out Fry and Leela's relationship more
That would've been a better movie than Bender's Big Score desu
Yeah, going back and rewatching the series, I was blown away by how much of a shitty person Leela was. She was a good friend to Fry but would've made a terrible partner.
The fact that Fry broke up with Amy actually made me mildly annoyed despite being a very funny episode.
The series ended with Fry's holophoner solo to Leela, period.
Let's put it this way
the original run was amazing, with a few goofy moments
the revival -had a few good moments-
to be fair, the original series was PRETTY damn early-2000s too, with references to lucy liu, napster, beck, the beastie boys...
but they were having a lot more fun with it. and anyway, at the time, timely references were pretty novel. once reality shows took over as the primary cash cow, we started watching normal shows to get AWAY from pop culture.
your taste is, like, backwards
>The Land Titanic: the world's biggest and onliest land ship!
it had a fewww good jokes
proposition infinity is honestly enough reason to just skip to the finale.
I thought it was more hit-and-miss than outright bad. I'd probably skip a lot on a rewatch, but I'd consider others (like the body swap episode and the one where they invent a time machine that can only go forward) just as good as the originals.
The show wasn't actually meant to end with Meanwhile. The show was going to continue but got canceled again so the writers just rolled with it and said the show was on a endless loop. I personally had mixed feelings about the ending. Like, it's a fine finale, but it felt like such a cop out. I think the reason they chose to end it off like that when getting canceled again is because Matt Greoning wanted to end the Simpsons on a endless loop, but since the show is yet to end and it probably won't end on anyone's will or knowledge, they decided to give that ending to Futurama. The show actually had 4 endings. Obviously the Devil's Hands episode of course but also
>Into the Wild Green Yonder
The show would have ended with all the cast in the wormhole with the audience left unaware of their fate. Another cop out where we are left asking questions.
>Overclockwise
A similar ending to the Devil's hands focusing on Fry and Leela's relationship, but where they read about their future together foretold by Bender as the show closes.
I don't know who Foxcade is but I hear a lot that people hate the final few seasons so I made this thread. What exactly did Lethal Inspection retcon? If you are talking about Bender explaining how he was born in another episode, it's very possible Bender forgot and he is prone to lying. Personally, it's one of my favorite episodes. Also, I don't see what's wrong with more pairings.
I never really hated Fry and Leela's relationship, though I do agree it was better in the early years, but that would have been awesome.
Bender's Big Score was great. The best movie in fact.
I didn't think you'd reply. Your opinion's fair. I personally love those episodes. Also, I don't know how Fun on a Bun was a big fuck you. I don't actually hate Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences, but it was kind of eh in my opinion. Though Lrrr always steals the show.
I loved it and the movies personally, but I do admit the first season back was the weakest.
The quality was so inconsistent. About half the seasons was absolute gems but the other half was absolute stinkers. You'd either get a classic or an episode you should just skip. The very beginning and the very end of the season was crammed with crap.
I will admit to there being episodes I'll skip, where I'll pretty much watch the oc series front to back. But I'm 26 now so having new futurama movies in middle school and a new season in high school felt really cool to me. I'm willing to admit I have certain nostalgic feelings towards the movies specifically.
Reincarnation is amazing.
>>Murder on the Planet Express
This is basically the basis of Among Us. If Futurama ever came back, I would love if an episode was basically Futurama x Among Us.
IMO, the worst part of the revival was the movies (Benders Big Score was the only decent one), and maybe the first 5 or so episodes of Season 6.
Lethal Inspection onwards was generally when things got better for me. Still some duds here and there, but overall, it was generally a decent run, with some gems that were even comparable with the original run in quality.
I always felt they shouldn't have made the production runs 26 episodes long, because Seasons 6 and 7 most definitely had a few episodes that screamed "filler" to me (I'm not using the anime definition, before anyone replies). None of the original run's were that long with only 3ACV even having above 20.
You guys have pretty shit taste.
The first Comedy Central season had shit like the iPhone episode and the Susan Boyle episode. Half of fucking Zig Forums is probably too young to remember Susan Boyle.
When the older episodes made a reference to our culture, it was always through Fry and in universe. The CC stuff had stuff like Zapp saying "Zoom in like they do in CSI". They didn't even half ass a "CSI Alpha Centauri" or something. They just had Zapp reference 21st century TV apropos nothing.
And that's just the humour. Every so often they'd try to force an "emotional episode" in the vein of Jurassic Bark or Luck of the Fryish. It always felt so damned force to me. Like how Hermes built and raised baby Bender.
