Edward Nashton (Paul Dano) is a forensic scientist for the Gotham City Police Department who gets fed up with the rampant corruption and decides to eliminate the people responsible. He blackmails corrupt cops into carrying out assassinations for him, then uses his position to sabotage the investigation by planting false evidence at the crime scenes.
Officer Stan Merkel (Barry Keoghan) is the protege of Captain James Gordon and Nashton's secret accomplice. Unlike Nashton, who pragmatically targets only the corrupt city officials affiliated with mobster Carmine Falcone, Merkel is a sociopath who doesn't care about innocent people getting caught in the crossfire, which inevitably leads to a falling-out between them and Merkel going rogue, with Gordon setting to stop him while Batman deals with the Nashton.
>They're not trying to turn The Riddler into Jig--
Matthew Smith
It's not a bad direction as far as reinterpretations go.
Samuel Myers
>"Villain" gets fed up with the rampant corruption and decides to eliminate the people responsible. >pragmatically targets only the corrupt city officials affiliated with mobster So why i should sympathize with Batman in this story?
I'm also pretty sure Riddler either knows about the Court of Owls and is working for or against them in some manner.
Hence the Owl card he sends Bruce, and tells him that he "has a part in all this" I'm hushed voices at the end of the trailer
Sequel will be Court of Owls and I HOPE the introduction of the first proper live action Dick Grayson Robin since Burt Ward
This is all my speculation of course
Xavier Richardson
It's a pretty common speculation online.
Joseph Turner
Incredible boring. Also is the Riddler just a vigilante version of Qanon?
Brayden Collins
If its common speculation it means everyone is full of retards. There will be no Robin. There will be no superpowers (inb4 that newspaper easteregg). Its as grounded, and dark and realistic as it gets.
The owls are the next enemy yes, if there is another movie.
Or what if it turns out Riddler becomes this Batman's "Robin"
Kayden Morris
>makes other people kill for him Also Dano is older than Pattison
Logan Gonzalez
It's his superpower.
Jaxson Jenkins
Are you retarded?
Brody Parker
You have no idea of any of this, this is just what YOU want it to be.
Dick was important to the CoO storyline, so if only stands to reason he will be in its adaptation and they just use Robin Dick instead of Nightwing Dick
And there's no way they include Metropolis in their newspaper and there isn't a Superman running around. What a retarded thing to say.
Henry Wilson
I think it will be kid Dick still, but his parents are killed by Zucco on the Court's orders because they want to start molding him into a Talon and want Bruce to get him started before they take him from them
Bentley Cruz
>Grounded >Realistic
>But he's working hand in hand with the cops like he's Adam West
>Adding Robin is what pushes the film into being "unrealistic"
What the fuck are you talking about. Fans will be pissed if they don't get a proper Robin after the franchise has been rebooted this many fucking times. Fans were clammoring for Nolan to include Robin and he pretty much only didn't because Bale basically threatened to walk if they did and publicly said almost that.
>They seriously changed Riddler’s last name to Nashton The last superhero movie I can remember where the people making it weren’t entirely embarrassed by the source material was the first Captain America film.
