Dungeons and Dragons is lame

Any form of comic or movie about D&D is going to suck because your imagination always tops an artist's subjective vision.

That and it’s lame

Its unironically because of irony. A straight DnD thing would be great, like Baldur' Gate 3 showed. A comic or movie would likely be so insecure about it that it would have a bunch of meta humor about how stupid DnD is, like the MCU has conditioned audiences to expect.

Some isekai with Dwayne Johnson is about what I expect from DnD.

So, no hope even for this titmouse project?

No

Well, titmouse has rarely let me down, so I still have hope.

There HAS been a huge surge in DnD comics though.

Why did something happen to the company that owns Dubgeons & Dragons?

You mean Wizards of the Coast? I don't think so?

Critical Role is shit

I have no idea what this is.

No, but there's been a lot of DnD or similar game podcasts that have taken off in the last few years.

Goddamn this gave the worst impression on what it means to dm in dnd. I had a friend who suddenly got interested in dnd and wanted to host a game, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and it ended up being a two hour long session of him jerking off in front of us just reading from a script with over-elaborate details for everything but the kitchen sink. There was no role play or game to be had, regardless of our rolls he just read off whatever he had already written down, which led to an awful “musical boss fight”, more railroading scripted bullshit with no opportunity to actually play. I’m not even mad at MBMBAM for making this, I just hate that I had to experience someone’s sad attempt at mimicking them.

Remember that time they named the elf character "Taco" as a joke because elves don't know what tacos is and Tumblr started drawing him as Latino then Deep Tumblr decided that was racist and demanded that the podcasters publicly apologize for naming him "Taco" because that's racist?

I do. I also remember how the last arc took a nosedive around the time the tranny showed up.

I really really really disagree. People took the wrong lessons from him, but there's no helping people that stupid. More than anything else, when he was DMing he seemed to be someone trying to make the experience FUN for the players, and he was willing to roll with shit to keep the fun moving. Definitely not the style I'm used to, but fucking hell I've had no shortage of DMs that badly needed to learn that lesson.
He did railroad too much at points, I agree, but he could honestly roll with things way better than a few "more true to the source" guys I've gotten stuck with.

It isn't even a real d20, it's a roll down die.

Least we got Tales of Alethrion

>Renfaer
>Renaissance Faire

10/10 name.

Dungeons & Dragons is a great way to detect autism.

Unless it's dwarven work.

It died after 3.0. Hasbro wanted to make it an offline computer rpg and as far as I see it, it failed miserably.

5e is literally the most profitable and popular the games ever been.

LOL not even past the cover and they're pissing off the real nerds.

Fourth edition was a shitshow but Wizards are doing nearly everything right with Fifth edition and it's hugely popular. First edition was a phenomenon too but it's fair to say 5e is the greatest "success" yet.

>Some isekai
Funnily enough Overlord is very heavily inspired by DnD, though it doesn't really follow the 'watch a group of heroes on their journey' trope that much

Good lord I wish this had gotten the chance to finish.

The underlying magic system isn’t just inspired by D&D; his whole class system just stretches 3.5 core, splat, and third party ideas out across 100 levels instead of 20 and his spell system is literally d&d magic with spellpoints instead of vancian.

For fucks sake, metamagic is mentioned by name and the joke is that he’s running around a world where most everyone is playing by E6 Rules while he’s at Cap/Epics

Because 5e is filthy normie bait, marketed towards teenagers that watched Critical Role videos on Youtube and expect each game to be run exactly like that shitshow.

>nnooooooooo you can't just enjoy a version of the game that's highly accessible and easy to homebrew!!!!!!!!

it's less that they did almost everything right and more that they massively simplified everything while doing a huge marketing push at the same time. 5e is easy to get into but has a ton of pit falls for new players and largely the same issues dnd has always had. Just in a slightly less complex package.
