What about a GC thread? I've spent the last few days reading chapter after chapter of this webcomic I'm still at chapter 65 out of 78 and now that I'm almost 2000 pages into the world of the comic I'd like to hear what other anons think about it. Unfortunately I couldn't witness all the reactions to the great reveals/events that I'm sure unfolded here on Zig Forums in real time, but, as I said, I'd still very much like to know what's the general consensus about this very old (and very enjoyable) masterpiece.
Don't worry about spoilers btw. Speak freely and don't hold back
Gunnerkrigg Court
General consensus is that it's a really solid comic, there's been some complaints that the more recent chapters aren't up to snuff with the older stuff but they're in a minority. It's been a solid feature on this board going all the way back to its earliest days, and still has a new thread made every time there's an update. People also really, really want to fuck some of the characters, the GKC threads can get stupidly horny.
>there's a thread every 2 days
>often actually survive to the next update
>some faggot popping out that one day with no thread pretending he found a hidden gem and that he is special
Fuck off secondary.
Oh I forgot to mention, it attracted a LOT of artistic attention back in the day, both lewd and unlewd. A lot of pretty prominent artists online had their start or first boost of popularity doing Gunnerkrigg stuff. It's fallen off in the last 5 or so years but it's not totally dead.
>Secondary
>OP is reading the main body of work directly
That word does not mean what you think it means.
I repeat: I know there are regular threads here on Zig Forums. I just never really looked at them. Never minded them too much, actually. Now that I've given the comic a chance I've got curious about, let's say, the fandom itself. It's sad I've lost so many years of discussions, you know?
>It's fallen off in the last 5 or so years
A pity. Still, it's incredible the author is still working on it after almost 16 years. That's some astounding dedication right there
After the introduction of Loup, the quality of the Almost every aspect of the comic has fallen noticably.
Yeah the fandom's actually still pretty active too, not really sure what happened to all the artists. Tom's art and dedication to his story is really something else, one of the more recent chapters was something that he said he'd had planned since the beginning of the comic. I almost wonder if he doesn't have a rough idea of when it'll reach its conclusion.
Ueah, you really gotta respect the love this guy has for his creation. He's not the best artist out there, but it's clear he pours his heart and soul in those pages. He brought me to tears with Mort's passage to the Ether and made me really upset when I saw Red cutting her ties with Annie
>I'd still very much like to know what's the general consensus about this very old (and very enjoyable) masterpiece.
I remember in the general people were hype about how this shows Kat's godhood becoming real. Everyone enjoys a good "Kat sees things in the ether differently than Annie" time.
Zig Forumstrarians bitched about nothing happening and the battle with Jennie was over hyped and there being no consequences for Annie. They're still bitching the same cause you can't fix retarded like that.
It's easily my favorite webcomic. The general consensus is that it's one of the greats. Gotta say, while the setting lore, and story are all interesting, this is a work that thrives on its characters, especially the protagonist. Who's your favorite, OP?
>nothing happening
This was never an action comic.
Then again, if there's an aspect I feel I can criticize, it's the pace. I've read (and am still reading) the whole story at an extremely fast pace, so I could see the plot thicken, develop, unfold and thicken again.
That said, while I can say I'm not dissatisfied with the direction the plot has gone/is going, I have to admit there are still so many mysteries that have to be explained. I've consumed the equivalent of 12 years of content in three days and I feel that only 50-60% circa of the enigmas have been solved so far: if the author is determined to keep his usual pace, we can/should expect at least another 5 years of updates before the story can be considered properly resolved. Which is great, if Siddell actually has in him the strength to keep going for so long
I wouldn't say I have a favorite. Not exactly. I do admit I feel a certain admiration towards Antimony, though. As cliché as that may sound
Nothing cliche about liking best girl, user. She's everything a good protagonist should be, frankly.
As for the pacing, it never really bothered me all that much, since the stuff that's not directly advancing the story is still enjoyable.
>on chapter 65
Oh, so you want the plot to advance some more, huh? Welp.
I reckon I'm about to see some weird stuff happening, right? I know I should except some shocking developments real soon. I know Coyote is apparently about to die and, if I got it right, time travel shenanigans are about to begin. I've spoiled myself a bit, I admit. I don't mind though. Wonder how shocked I'll be when I'll finally get to the latest updates
*expect
Goddamnit
>I reckon I'm about to see some weird stuff happening, right?
To say the least. Let's just say it's very fortunate for you that you like Annie.
Also, the time travel shenanigans are pretty simple, all things considered.
>the time travel shenanigans are pretty simple, all things considered
Wonderful. I'm not exactly a fan of time travel conundrums.
Well, off I go now. Time to parse through the last few chapters left. Hope this thread'll still be up when I'm done
Regular Gunnerkrigg threads on Zig Forums make me feel safe. Like everything's in perfect order
it's funny how typical of the story it is
Kat does some mundane task, while Annie experiences the unrelenting horror that results from it
HOT TAKE:
My money is on Zimmy being and Annie
Annie is great, there's really nothing wrong with liking her. One of the rare examples of a protagonist in a webcomic actually being interesting.
Gunnerkrigg's absolutely one of my favorite webcomics! I've been slacking on the threads because of outside stuff, but maybe I can hit them up again for old time's sake.
This. I love how human she is, in that she can, on occasion, just act like a complete jackass and not have the world bend over backward to make her seem like she's in the right.
>there are two Annies now
Yey! I like this new development. Let's see where it goes. I'm less than 10 chapters behind the current update
>Let's just say it's very fortunate for you that you like Annie.
Haha! Oh, you're good, you.
Honestly, Kat creeps me out a bit. She's far too crafty with her technological skills and far too bright. It's pretty terrifying to image the catastrophes she could cause if her crazy devices ever got out of control
Kat's set up to be really likable but kind of unaware of just how insane the stuff is that she's doing. She's basically like a naïve god.
*to imagine
Fuck, my headache is killing me
I mean: pseudo-organic robots? Teleportation technology? A device capable of manufacturing almost everything in the span of a few seconds? A super-supercomputer only she can interact with? That's nightmare fuel potential if ever seen it
Mate, we have threads about the comic every time it updates
Other than that, you might be wise to reread it at least once afterwards, so you can figure out all the foreshadowing and stuff, and you might find the fandom wiki to be helpful as well
Enjoy the comic buddy
>I mean: pseudo-organic robots? Teleportation technology? A device capable of manufacturing almost everything in the span of a few seconds? A super-supercomputer only she can interact with? That's nightmare fuel potential if ever seen it
Seems intentional. Ever since the Angel thing started in earnest, there's been several moments where she's portrayed as unintentionally sinister. Sweet, lovable Kat... We are lucky She is a kind and merciful goddess.
>you might be wise to reread it
Oh, no, I could never do such a thing. It'd be exceedingly time-consuming. Frankly, I shouldn't even be spending so many days reading the comic in the first place. I keep going (apart from the story itself, of course) because I'm mentally in a shitty place right now and I'm using various webcomics to cope with it
>We are lucky She is a kind and merciful goddess
Meh, still a bit terrified of her and envious too. I wish I knew more about modern technology. As long as Annie keeps trusting her, I guess it's alright though
