It's a deliberate contrast to the light tone of the previous chapter. It indicates that long-established plot lines are in motion and storm clouds are gathering. It's OMINOUS.

I'm hoping once I finish my game it'll bring in some new people.

There used to be a lot more in these very threads, back in the glory days as you call them. There was then some autist that went on a rabid crusade against them for "thread purity" and they gradually got chased off. Every now and then a new artist will hop into these threads but they don't tend to last, Imaa's the only guy that's stuck around.
