Lich was only a jobber due to the ineptitude of the post-Ward writing staff. They couldn't write their own villain so they kept bringing him back and shitting on him each time.
Explain.
Man every time he showed up it was just "how much lamer can we make him"
only time he felt like a jobber was anything involving Sweat Pea
the rest of it was at least fucking metal even if the Lich seem to be defeated way too quickly most of the time
He was cool the first time because it was a very serious villain in a very silly show and Finn had to hustle to defeat him ASAP because every second the Lich lived he was sprinting towards ending the world. It had an urgency adventure time never had before.
Beyond that in later seasons the lich was lame, they never should’ve brought him back

I completely forgot this guy's story. He died once when Finn busted his skull with the sweater, and then again after taking over PB I think. Then he apparently takes over Billy and there's some nuclear war stuff and it's all becomes muddled from there.

They tried redeeming him by making out that he was once a good father but suffered a head injury and that's why he's such a prick.
I enjoyed it when he was just a plain old asshole who ran away from any responsibility and only cared about himself.
He was great before the redemption. He subverted expectations, subverted a classic trope, and was the antithesis of Finn, where Finn tried to be a good guy but Martin didn't even try to be a decent human being.
They ruined some other good characters that were jerks by trying to redeem them later on.
They wanted to end the series with a neat bow on top.
Fuck that.
